The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Medical Claims Specialist to join our Claims team at AIA.  We have two permanent opportunities and one 12month fixed term opportunity available.

As a Medical Claims Specialist, you will report to the Medical Claims Manager and will manage all claims in a timely, positive, innovative and empathetic manner. You will be responsible for the assessment of medical claims by liaising with clients, health professionals and advisers as well as processing claim payments ensuring a high level of accuracy.

You will be someone who has the ability to manage a fast-paced day, multi-task and have a positive attitude while maintaining a high level of accuracy and customer service.

About the Role:

  • To assess each claim under the benefits of their policy, ensuring claim is applicable and within the parameters of their policy wording and benefits.
  • Customer queries are responded to promptly and telephone manner is of a high standard. To ensure communication with brokers occurs especially when claims declined to ensure their support.
  • To remain customer focused and maintain a caring approach with claimants.
  • Ensure non disclosure / complaints are presented to the claims committee. Cases must be fully prepared, complete and have a recommendation. Presentation must conform to agreed guideline.
  • Assist with provider liaison (hospitals, specialists, etc) with regards to claims, ensuring that only genuine claims are paid in accordance with AIA procedures and guidelines.
  • Support the Medical Claims Manager with new initiatives and process improvements.
  • Assist in additional projects identified by the Medical Claims Manager.
  • Actively and positively contribute to claims team cohesion and the development of a positive team culture and climate.

About you:

  • Knowledge of health or medical claims procedures and processes (advantage).
  • General insurance knowledge or experience.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Medical training and qualification, such as a nursing degree (advantage).
  • Familiarity with the NZ health system, ACC and the insurance industry (advantage).
  • Strong analytical skills, the ability to extract data and provide recommendations to support business process changes.
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Shows initiative and is a self-starter.
