Job SUMMARY:

The Aesthetics Affiliate Medical Director (AAMD) is a high profile, strategic in-affiliate leadership role, with principal responsibility for leading and building the medical organisation and developing the scientific and medical strategy that support the continuing success of Allergan Aesthetics in the affiliate(s). As a member of the affiliate leadership team(s), the AAMD is the direct link between the aesthetics R&D organisation and the local affiliate aesthetics team.  Additionally, the AAMD will work closely with the Affiliate Medical Director(s) to ensure we operate efficiently as one AbbVie organisation.

 

In this capacity, the AAMD for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) manages 4 Field Medical Advisors (FMAs). This key leadership role requires a thorough understanding of all aspects of drug & device development through to commercialisation that are relevant for the affiliate(s).  These may include late stage development activities, pre- and post-launch medical and scientific activities, including the development and execution of core scientific activities and programs to ensure launch excellence of new products in the affiliate(s).

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and execution of affiliate level Medical plans: work strategically and operationally with entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, to contribute valuable strategic input to both Global Medical plans and to affiliate commercial plans, ensuring that the Affiliate Medical plan is aligned with Global Medical and affiliate commercial plans for aesthetics. 
  • Strong connection with local Opinion Leaders and External Organisations: maintain professional and credible relationships with top tier affiliate opinion leaders, academic centers and external organisations e.g. governmental organisations, professional societies, etc. to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the products and areas of therapeutic interest of Allergan Aesthetics.
  • Lead within affiliate Leadership Team: collaborate with other leaders within affiliate to operate a successful organisation  
  • Build and maintain a strong local Medical team: recruit, retain and mentor high potential employees in the medical affairs team, ensuring that a talent pool exists for a dynamic and changing organisation. Build a spirit of self-learning and development, demonstrating knowledge, ability to provide practical advice, resourcefulness and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.

Strategic and Business Leadership

  • Lead, build and manage the affiliate Aesthetics Team
  • Actively engage with the Global and Affiliate Medical functions to ensure that affiliate level priorities and needs are championed, and that Global strategy is implemented in affiliate(s).
  • As a member of affiliate Aesthetics Business Unit team provide input and support to the Lead for the operation of the Allergan business unit organisation
  • Partner with the affiliate commercial team to develop commercial plans to ensure the continued success of the organisation and scientific competitive leadership of the Allergan products.
  • Provide proactive input and reactive support to the R&D development strategy and projects according to affiliate and Global needs.        
  • Work closely with the Affiliate Medical Director(s) to operationalize plans with support from shared services within Medical Affairs

External Engagement

  • Interact with top local Key Thought Leaders or healthcare decision makers at scientific meetings and other forums
  • The AAMD is the local Allergan scientific spokesperson with key stakeholders for the company, e.g. educational events, medical societies, regulators, payers and all other key healthcare decision makers
  • Attend relevant medical congresses to extend medical knowledge, provide medical expertise and establish new/strengthen existing business relationships

Team Management   

  • Recruit and retain a team of high performing professionals, providing coaching and leadership to enable everyone to reach their full potential
  • Develop and execute an aligned affiliate Aesthetics Medical plan with clear KPIs milestones and deliverables
  • Collaborate with Global Medical Operations team to harmonise MSL’s activities and maximise value to the organisation
  • Ensure that the Medical team executes all plans with strict adherence to applicable company standards, policies and procedures and any affiliate legislations or regulations maintaining high medical and ethical standards in all activities
  • Maintain and monitor all reporting and budget expenditures

Shared Medical Functions & HEOR

  • Provide support as needed to the affiliate safety organisation e.g. assistance in product safety issues, HA inspections/audits, CAPAs, and training activities
  • Provide support as required for the technical and scientific content of medical information enquiries
  • Collaborate with In- affiliate HEOR managers (where applicable) to develop and deliver integrated affiliate Aesthetics plans

Qualifications

job QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

The requirements described in this section are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Education and Experience

  • Doctor of Medicine degree, PhD, PharmD
  • Minimum of 2 years medical research and clinical work experience or practice
  • Minimum 5 years broad pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience
  • Team management experience, preferably of medical affairs teams
  • Relevant aesthetics therapeutic area knowledge experience desirable

  • Demonstrated understanding of drug & device development, deep practical knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and commercialisation processes, have sound and current knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements and a solid understanding of trial design and methodology 
  • Recent experience in launching new innovative products and supporting access for patients

  • Demonstrated ability to participate within an executive team and contribute to the development and implementation of winning strategies for the company overall with high integrity and strong work ethic
