Medical Scientific Liaison - South Africa

Job Purpose:

  • Provide state-of-the-art medical insight into the therapeutic area (TA) and/or specific molecules to Local and International teams.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for Local and International teams in area of responsibility.
  • Maximize Amgen’s value propositions to create value for patients through collaboration with other MSLs
  • Design, implement and execute local TA specific medical plans and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs) .
  • Co-ordinate with all Medical functions and business partners to achieve meaningful MSL programs.

Key Job Functions:

  • Ensures attainment of medical and R&D objectives through management, development and execution of medical strategy.
  • Provides input to regional Medical function to constantly develop Medical
    role and processes
  • Organizes and tracks local MSL training
  • Represents local MSLs at regional meetings and task forces
  • Works closely with local TA Leads, Business Unit Leads und DOM to define Medical strategies and collaboration
  • Develops TA Scientific Engagement Plans on HQ level based on brand strategy for inline and pipeline products
  • Communicates global/regional strategies to local teams
  •  Medical budget planning and tracking
  • Leads development and implementation of local KOL plans, implements and over sees TA KOL relationship management process
  • Works closely with Regional TA Leads and Marketing Managers to timely react to scientific changes
  • Works with all medical functions to assure alignment of medical activities and processes
  • Coordinates the identification of new research opportunities e.g. Investigator Sponsored Studies(ISSs)
  • Works with Development Feasibility Manager to ensure quality of study landscaping
  • Develops and presents required qualitative and quantitative reports to management teams
  • Ensures medical/legal excellence and compliance
  • Work with Global Development Operations management to early exchange information of upcoming programs and ensure coordinated prioritization of site selection

Responsible for:

  • Execution of local Medical Plans and SEPs
  • Achieving consistent Medical processes
  • Assuring availability of relevant Medical tools and materials
  • Working with local TA Leads and DOM to develop local territory R&D tactics
  • Medical budget planning and tracking
  • Assist in the onboarding and training.
  • Design and implementation of local KOL plans

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum  4years of experience in the Pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in sales force, affiliate Medical Department or Clinical Development
  • Willingness to travel, up to 40%

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in medical affairs especially in Oncology  
  • Experience with clinical study management and conduct
  • Experience with scientific affairs business processes
  • Management of complex projects
  • Experience in cross functional teams
  • Experience in international workstream
  • Fluent in both local language and in English (both oral and written)
  • Ability to understand complex issues and translate them into clear business impact and strategy

Decision Making Authority

  • Input into Medical and R&D field strategy
  • Leadership in execution of local Medical  plans
  • Local Medical capacities, planning and processes
  • DOE sign-off at signature level?
