Job Description
- JOB SUMMARY:
The Merchandise Director is the local sourcing arm for WSI and is responsible for executing Brand directives in China. They are the primary liaison between the US based team and the factories, managing seasonal developments, vendor management and key communications.
As the leadership team member, they are the representatives of local office and role model for the entire team.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Product Development:
- Work with US team on seasonal placement strategy to ensure right product, right vendor
- Manage the purchasing cost to make sure our market and vendors are competitive.
- Fully versed on master calendar and all key dates. Alert Sourcing team when falling off calendar.
- Manage spec packet hand off with factories and engineering technicians.
- Communicate program approval to vendors and ensure that the factory has an MCS and approved color panel before they go into production
- Ensure vendors are staying on track for testing
- Troubleshoot any issues that come up in production and work with factory to ensure on-time delivery and notify sourcing if there are any major delays.
2. Vendor relations and capacity management
- Align with corporate sourcing teams on short and long term sourcing strategies
- Develop strong relationships with all our key vendors in a high ethics standard.
- Conduct monthly capacity forecast and scorecard discussions
- Stay on top of factory issues (strikes, holidays, etc) and communicate as needed to the SF team
3. Other initiative related to CSR and people development
- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Candidate must possess at least a relevant degree with 8 years of practical experience including 5 years of additional management responsibility
- Knowledge of overseas sourcing and product development
- Knowledge of Product manufacturing operations
- Preferred experience working with or for a Retailer
