Job Description
Eaton’s Vehicle Group is seeking a Metallurgical Specialist er in the Aguascalientes, Mexico Engine Valve location. Primary Function: The acts as the owner and voice of Quality and Engineering for all Metallurgical & specialty processes (ex. forging, heat treat, localized hardening, welding, chrome plating, and nitriding) for the Aguascalientes engine valve site. Driving quality & process improvements for all metallurgical related process. Providing leadership and guidance to the metallurgy lab to meet site needs. Owning CQI certifications & annual assessments. Ensure product quality requirements for Heat Treat and Metallurgy are maintained. Essential Functions: Owner and leader of all metallurgical process within the plant: heat treatment, localized hardening, stress relief/reversal processes, welding, chrome plating, and nitriding. Driving quality & process excellence to achieve world class performance. Develops, optimizes, and implements manufacturing controls for critical operating parameters on all metallurgically related production processes (primary focus on hardening, tempering, solution treating, aging, forging). Reviews and provides guidance to maintenance leaders – predictive & preventative maintenance needs for heat treat and other metallurgical processes Driving implementation of best practices & continuous improvements projects. Ensure the promotion and awareness of all metallurgical requirements throughout the organization. Lead Quality metallurgical deliverables for site, some examples: Special Product Characteristics (SPC) determination, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Customer Requirements, PPAP’s, and safe launch processes. Participate as a Fresh Eyes auditor for FEA, and lead CQI certifications each year. Maintains relevant CQI annual assessments. Lead metallurgical projects to assure compliance on current and new part numbers. Provides technical expertise, training and guidance internally, to suppliers, and to customers. Evaluates equipment and process problems and implements corrective actions. Develops and conducts research projects to improve manufacturing problems. Provides reports and presentations of the investigation and recommendations. Provides metallurgical prospective to Change Management, Internal/External Audits, LPA’s, Material Review Board, and EHS Assessments. Leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the Metallurgical Laboratory, some examples: procedures, measurement methods, data analysis & interpretation, lab improvement projects, equipment needs, 5S, data reporting for internal & external customer reviews. Must work consistently to maintain safe and healthy working conditions, to adhere to proper operating practices and procedures designed to prevent injury and illness and to observe Federal, State, local, and overall regional company safety and health regulations. Must reflect an interest in company safety and health objectives and required to set a good example by always observing the rules as a part of the normal work routine. Qualifications Basic qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science Min 3 years of experience in mfg environment with metallurgically-intensive processes, such as heat treating, forging, welding Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) Good communication skills – both verbal and written with ability to effectively communicate to internal & external customers Demonstrated strong problem solving, Passion, & Motivational skills Demonstrated working knowledge of manufacturing quality system implementation based on IATF 16949 Strong understanding of AIAG tools, statistical tools, and analysis; including: Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)MSA Process Capability, Control Plans, Gage Plans, Run@Rate Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements Statistical Process Control (SPC) Preferred: Master’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science Experience in Nickel Alloy manufacturing, processing, and heat treating. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, or Shainin Red-X Apprentice 5yrs+ experience in mfg environment with metallurgically-intensive processes, such as heat treating, forging, welding Certified Quality Engineer Experience in product &/or process design & development Additional Information: Travel up to 10% What you will get from us Eaton’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the environment through the use of power management technologies and services.
