Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Test Engineer whose primary responsibility is to support the Metallurgical Department Manager in running day to day laboratory affairs along with site and field testing.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating metallurgy lab test activities
  • Interpreting microstructures for steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium and nickel based super alloys
  • Operation of optical microscope, micro-hardness tester and digital imaging
  • Writing and reviewing internal metallographic and corrosion test procedures
  • Preparing samples for metallurgical, corrosion and chemical analysis
  • Conducting corrosion tests with salt and acidic solutions
  • Maintaining equipment operation manuals and calibration records
  • Conducting metallographic equipment maintenance
  • Ordering metallographic lab supplies, chemicals and standard test blocks for micro-hardness testers
  • Following stringent quality procedures such as Nadcap
  • Providing leadership in the metallurgy department
  • Training technicians as needed
  • Developing and maintaining good relationships with customers
  • Possibly being involved with initial test equipment installation

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or above in Metallurgy or Materials Science and Engineering
  • Minimum three years laboratory experience in the key responsibilities detailed earlier
  • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) experience is desirable but not mandatory
  • Strong knowledge of specifications such as ASTM and ASM
  • Good report writing skill both in Chinese and English
  • Good command of English verbal and reading
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Familiarity with performing and leading lean and 5S activities
  • Able to lift 25 pounds
