Position Overview

The heart of Whittle School & Studios' philosophy is our belief that all children are naturally curious, born to be great thinkers, and form meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and community. The Middle School Biology Teacher builds on the cross-cutting concepts that help students better understand core ideas in life sciences in the Next Generation Science Standards for Middle School. The passion for teaching and science engages students in developing an understanding of key concepts that will help each student make sense of the life sciences as they advance to the Upper School courses. The Science Teacher will facilitate the core science class, related electives and interdisciplinary STEM projects that engage students in collaboration and worldwide exchange. Additionally, this teacher will:

• genuinely enjoy the company of adolescents
• be passionate about developing a relationship and sense of trust with each student, and
• seek to engage with students both in the classroom and the greater Whittle community in a variety of ways outside the classroom

Core responsibilities of all Campus faculty members are organized loosely by the four program areas of the Whittle Ideal Candidate: (1) Core Curriculum, (2) Global Perspectives, (3) Personalized Pathways, and (4) Beyond the Core as well as those responsibilities expected as a member of a collaborative, professional learning community.

Qualifications and Attributes

The following are highly desirable qualifications for the listed position:

• Bachelor's degree BA/BS in specific field or post graduate work in subject matter required
• Master's level degree or above in content area preferred
• Linguistic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese highly desirable
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment
• Participates in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and other collaborative communities to design and plan instructions, to improve practice, and to achieve student outcomes
• Drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
