Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services and Systems division is currently seeking a Mission Critical Project Design Engineer to join our team. This position will be responsible for designing critical power system projects from the complex components of field data (notes, sketches, photos etc.) and the government requirement documents. The position is reserved for those individuals who have clearly demonstrated superior performance and creativity as an Electrical engineer/technician and Critical Power Systems design. In this function you will: Prepare complex layouts, electrical schematics, details, diagrams, one-lines, and plan drawings using AutoCAD 13-17, relating to new and modified equipment specifications, as well as from customer engineering interpretations of the government’s order / requirements. Perform site surveys to compile data required for project assignments. Produce standards, notes, specifications, spreadsheets, and other related written documents as required. Maintain contact with project managers, application engineers, product engineers and sales engineers to review and discuss information, modifications, adjustments, and progress of work relating to the design and manufacture of Eaton equipment being installed for the customer. Maintain contact with Mission Critical Project Managers or customer representatives to resolve problems as needed with designs during construction. Assist the senior design engineer in all aspects of mechanical or electrical drafting; recommend technical methods or approaches for project designs; perform calculations. Provide guidance to and assist and train less experienced application engineers and/or technical writers in all aspects of electrical design within the Mission Critical Team and recommend technical methods or approaches for these personnel in order to increase their overall quality, timeliness, and productivity. Take a lead role in providing input and feedback for continuous improvement of processes and standards including critical involvement with the CAD Teams and/or quality improvement teams and provide a positive role in continuous corrective and preventative action and processes. Develops critical power designs which may require the implementation of unique solutions. Implement changes to drawings per government documents, specifications and field notes. Inform PM’s to modify their SOW’s that impact their documents. Prepare Engineering Change Notice to accompany all drawing revisions. For design development, prepares all necessary revision documentation for design changes. Prepare and/or process change requests as required. Collaborate with peers and managers to improve efficiency and reduce cost for component development and detailing. Takes responsibility for the development of a portion of the computer aided engineering system by creating custom macros. Provide recommendations for standard guidelines for the Mission Critical Team. For design development, is the primary owner of their project drawings and maintains lead role in all error-correction, enhancement development, troubleshooting and implementation. Creates mechanical and/or electrical designs and/or CAD system enhancements for AutoCAD in response to a design specification or as directed by the project manager. These designs may be of a very innovative and creative nature. Takes a lead role in outlining, estimating time requirements, scheduling the workload, and following to completion engineering tasks and special projects as assigned by the senior design engineer and/or project manager. Resolve field conditions with subcontractors through coordination with project manager. Written skills are a must. Proficient in CAD, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Check work to assure conformance with NFPA Standards, especially with NFPA 70 (NEC). Working knowledge of standards applicable to assigned products (ANSI, NEMA, UL, CSA, etc.) Includes government specific standards/specifications when provide with the proposal request. Support Mission Critical cost reduction objectives. Provide technical assistance to our customers, sales, and EESS relative to complex product design/operation, electrical schematics, diagrams, sketches, one-lines, etc. as well as engineering interpretations of a specific general order or customer design. Must understand power flow and how to trace power circuits in drawing packages. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution Minimum 5 years’ experience in critical power designs OR minimum (3) years’ experience with electrical AND (3) years’ experience with mechanical systems in designing and developing mechanical/electrical critical power systems drawing designs Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. Able to obtain clearance to access government facilities. Must have a valid driver license in the US No relocation is provided. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution Experience with critical power system requirements for Data Centers to include UPS systems, Distribution, Generators, Switchgear, PDU’s, and other power system components. Comprehensive understanding of NEC and other electrical requirements for designing power systems. Experience using AutoCad 13-17 PE license Demonstrated ability to utilize the government’s specifications with SpecsIntact software. Position Criteria: Submit to periodic customer required background and drug screenings. Able to obtain clearance to access government facilities. Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license Strong focus on customer satisfaction Adept at successful project execution Strong experience to deliver technical solutions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to be flexible to adjust to changing conditions. Strong ability to explain design requirements and solutions in designs.
