The Opportunity  

This Mobile Software Architect position works out of our Sunnyvale, CA or Sylmar, CA location in the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) division.  

 

Mobile Software Architect is responsible for developing the technology roadmap and defining the mobile software architecture strategy and its implementation for CRM’s mobile software platform and applications. We are seeking a highly accomplished technology professional that beings the right balance of strategic thinking with an in-depth hands-on experience on various cutting-edge technologies besides mobile, including but not limited to cloud, servers, web applications, and Internet of Things (IoT). 

 

What You’ll Work On 

 

  • Develop the technology roadmap for CRM’s mobile software platforms and applications on Android and iOS phones, that work with CRM’s implantable devices and integrate with various phone models, healthcare platforms, health data sources, networks and carriers. 

  • Develop initial architecture specifications, and build architecture artifacts and prototypes as necessary to identify risk and effort during development of applications that employ the architecture. 

  • Define architecture strategy and implementation for the mobile apps, including but not limited to, deploying new architecture patterns, determine cross-platform vs. native approaches and trades-offs, integration with health platform interfaces, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) interactions, cybersecurity design elements, mobile OS APIs and dependencies, and app store needs. 

  • Participate in strategic roadmap planning and technology ideation and maturation, including early-phase technology research, proof of concepts, trial kits, etc., and in defining and implementing one or more features or architectural components. 

  • Collaborate cross-functionally within CRM and externally (e.g. across Medical Devices and other Abbott divisions).  

  • Responsible for analyzing customer needs (via use cases, requirements, or like) and identifying the required architectural facets. 

  • Responsible for technical leadership, design, and development of contemporary platform architectures such as SOA (Service-Oriented Architectures), cloud computing, IoT, web applications, and mobile. 

  • Develop initial architecture specifications, and build architecture artifacts and prototypes as necessary to identify risk and effort during the development of applications that employ the architecture. 

  • Instrumental in the advocacy, research, development, and integration of best-in-class architecture and/or architecture components.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors. 

  • Lead and oversee development efforts using Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban. 

 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering field. 

  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in building/leading one or more areas of technology, including front-end and/or backend solutions in the areas of Mobile, Web Applications, Server, and Cloud technologies. 

  • Experience with cross-platform mobile software architecture such as Xamarin or React Native. Programming languages: One or more of: C#, C++, Java, Kotlin, Swift. 

  • Experience with envisioning/strategizing, leading, and implementing digital transformation solutions in one or more of the above areas. Hands-on experience with migration from legacy to new digital platforms/solutions based on productivity, performance, security, costs, etc. is highly recommended. 

  • Experience with creating technology roadmap and solution architecture based on inputs from marketing, industry analysis, regional business teams, etc., and has created a platform, model, and product from grounds-up. 

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity standards and experience with implementing cybersecurity design principles such as authentication, authorization, certificate management and encryption. 

  • Understanding the technology trends and markets and demonstrating the ability to identify opportunities to apply them for the product where necessary. 

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Agile methodology and process automation (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, software deployment, etc.). 

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.  

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Experience with working in a regulated industry and its requirements, and has incorporated the paradigms into the technology and process. Understanding the separation between regulatory and non-regulatory areas and designing solutions around this is a major plus. 

  • Experience with working on one more cloud technologies and services such as Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Platform. 

  • Experience with working on design and implementation of various database technologies, including SQL and non-SQL.

The salary for this role is between $135,700 – $271,500
