Job Description

Come join a team that values collaboration, creativity, and a strong desire to make a positive impact.  As a valued member of the Microsoft Research Hardware Lab, you will be part of a small and dedicated team of engineers, technicians, and model makers.  Together we help make Microsoft researchers vision become a reality.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for translating ideas to concepts and from concept to prototypes which can entail designing and fabricating wearables, custom parts, assemblies, and jigs using CNC machinery and 3D printers.  In addition, you will also be responsible for lab stewardship.

Responsibilities

·       Design and fabricate costumes and garments.

·       Build prototypes, custom parts, assemblies, and jigs.

·        Design using CAD/CAM software.

·       Operate & program CNC machinery in a model shop such as a lathe, mill, press brake, surface grinder, water jet, table saw, welder, laser cutter, and 3D printers.

·       Assist managers, engineers, and researchers by providing input on design and feasibility.

·       Abide by shop safety and cleanliness guidelines.

·       Lab steward

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

·       3 plus years designing and fabricating garments.

·       2 plus years experience working with CAD software such as Fusion360, Maya, Rhino3D, or Solid Works.

·       1 plus years lab steward experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       Effectively communicate technical concepts in both written and verbal form.

·        Ability to be adaptive and be flexible under changing priorities and non-routine interruptions.
