Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will [a part of Amgen’s Induced Proximity Platform (IPP) organization. The RNA Degradation (RD) group within IPP is seeking a motivated scientist to contribute to the discovery and development of new therapeutic modalities in the RNA space. The RD group is focused onexploiting our understanding of RNA degradation to advance Amgen’s drug discovery pipeline of intractable and difficult-to-drug therapeutic targets.

You will work collaboratively with researchers across multiple functions within the IPP department as well as across disease therapeutic areas and the Therapeutics Discovery organization. The successful candidate will also work with external partners and contract research organizations (CROs) and have the opportunity to present work at national and international conferences.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in planning, design, optimization, and documentation of research activities related to RNA processing, nucleic acid biochemistry and protein-protein interaction.
  • Develop innovative screening platform, including reporter assays, cell line generation, to support discovery and development of novel therapeutic modalities based on RNA degradation.
  • Optimize molecular, cell biology and biochemical assays to be compatible with median-high throughput platform.
  • Set project goals and timelines, design, perform and analyze experiments, interact with team members across different departments and research sites and communicate and present data to department leadership.
  • Participate in the scientific community through conference presentations and impactful publications.
  • Informative departmental goals and strategy and will represent the department in various cross-functional activities including academic collaborations, external research evaluations, project teams, and scientific committees.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree or
  • Master’s degree and 4 years of relevant scientific experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of relevant scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and +6 years of directly related industry or academic experience.
  • Broad knowledge of molecular and cellular biology with experience in pipeline products and/or publications in top journals.
  • Hands-on experience with median/high throughput biochemical and/or biophysical assays, such as FRET, BRET, and AlphaScreen, or enzymology assays.
  • Hands-on experience and extensive knowledge with knock-in, knock-out, inducible cell line generation, virus packaging and handling.
  • Nucleic acid research experience, including but not limited to nucleic acid purification, precipitation, amplification (e.g. qPCR, ddPCR), hybridization and detection.
  • Experience with small molecule drug screening campaigns and target engagement assays.
  • Experience with RNA biology, or RNA processing/biochemistry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with 2nd generation sequencing and/or amplicon sequencing, sequencing library construction is an added bonus but not a requirement.
  • Strong scientific reasoning, data analysis, attention to details and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skill.
