Job Description
The Monash University Foundation Year aims to empower young people with the capabilities and behaviours to be inquiring, life-long learners with an understanding of their own identity and respect for other people.
To this end the core integrative learning opportunities focus on developing the talents and capacities of students to be team players with strong interpersonal communication and critical thinking skills which will be required for their tertiary studies and career.
The philosophy of teaching and learning embraced by the Monash University Foundation Year is based on a:
• constructivist paradigm that is grounded in the individual needs of learners
• sound basis in cultural understanding
• strong connection between content and context.
This philosophy of teaching and learning for pathway students is concerned to make a worthwhile contribution to students’ well-being and learning outcomes by providing a foundation with a holistic perspective that will equip students for entry into university life and give students the capabilities, skills and understanding necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
Job Details:
-City of employment: Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou
-Language of Instruction: English
-Classes begin: January 8, 2013
-Teaching hours: Mon-Fri, 8-26 contact hours per week
-Curriculum: Highly developed curriculum provided by Monash University, Australia
-In addition to contact hours, teachers are responsible for developing and contributing to the existing curriculum; constructing lesson plans, partaking in scheduled meetings; and, keeping detailed records of their work and the work of their students.
-Office hours: office hours are not required
-Age of students: 16-18
-Number of students per class: maximum of 25
-Classrooms: each classroom is equipped with an lcd, microphone, and speakers
Remuneration & Benefits:
-Salary: 8,000-25,000rmb/month based on number of courses teaching in the program, previous experience, education, and credentials
-Contract: 1 year
-Airfare: 10,000RMB yearly airfare allowance for full-time teachers
-Documents: Work permit, foreign expert certificate, and Z-visa
-Opportunities: Career development opportunities with the largest provider of private education in China.
Desired Skills & Experience:
-Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master's preferred)
-Two years teaching experience in one of the above mentioned subjects in a Higher Education environment
-Experience teaching non-native English learners
-Familiarity with China and Chinese culture
-CELTA/TEFL/TESOL Certification preferred
-Experience in a Foundation or similar bridging program (NCUK, AP, GAC, Sino-Canadian, etc.)
-Must be capable of speaking English at a native level.
