Housed within our commercial sourcing function, the Mars cocoa sustainability team is a leader in the sustainability space, driving positive social, economic and environmental impacts for cocoa farmers and their families through our Cocoa For Generations (C4G) strategy. As the MEL Manager - Cocoa Sustainability, you will operationalize our MEL framework, lead our learning agenda and champion digital transformations to inform impactful sustainability investments for Mars. Externally, you will represent Mars in industry forums and public private partnerships to drive sector level collaboration and impact.

What are we looking for?

• Master’s degree required or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in international development, sustainability, economics, statistics, or other relevant topic.
• Strong communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
• Experience in executing Monitoring Evaluation Learning Strategies and implementing learning and knowledge management systems in global roles.
• Understanding of the key monitoring, evaluation and reporting issues in the smallholder context, preferably in the cocoa industry.
• Demonstrated strong management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills with proven ability to function effectively with multiple supplier-country counterparts in private, public and NGO sectors
• Experience in implementing and transforming analytics and data management systems.
• Experience in implementing or managing quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and their application in smallholder context.
• Ability to coach, mentor and develop technical capacity in regional and national projects and technical staff
• Familiarity with ESG principles and reporting
• English required; Spanish preferred

What would be your key responsibilities?

• Provide global oversight and act as the technical lead on Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning for the Cocoa Sustainability team
• Develop and represent Mars’s positions in cross industry platforms in discussion on industry reporting and learning.
• Develop efficient knowledge management systems and direct the process flows, documentation, and protocols for each KPI to ensure credibility of data and respect for data privacy and protection.
• Partner with the Cocoa sustainability, Supplier development and Commercial research teams to establish and maintain geo-referenced, cloud-based MEL systems and ensure data requirements are integrated into project management processes.
• Oversee and/or conducting targeted impact evaluations and research, including design, data collection, management, and analysis. 
• Communicate complex data and findings in an actionable manner to diverse commercial and sustainability stakeholders
• Proactively monitor, analyse and advise on new technical information, policy development, technologies, and trends relevant to the program. Keeps abreast of issues in areas in which Mars has an ongoing interest and guide our investments in these.
