Multimedia Content Developer

Role overview:


The primary objective of this role is to support and facilitate the development of multimedia content and resources used in blended and fully-online learning and teaching initiatives across the University. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for undertaking relevant tasks and duties associated with ensuring the successful day-to-day running of two separate digital video and audio content capture and production facilities across the University.

The Multimedia Content Developer reports to the Manager, Educational Technologies and is line-managed by the Director, Educational Development Unit (EDU), and will work within a team comprising Educational Technologists, E-learning Officers and Instructional Designers, based in the EDU and in academic departments.

The Educational Development Unit is committed to exploring new models of higher education, supporting and enhancing best academic practice in all learning, teaching and research activities, both on and off campus using remote technologies, and supporting the University to reach its global goals to combine eastern and western education philosophies. Its core aim is to provide support to academic departments by developing strategies to enhance programme design and assessments, driving innovation in the curriculum, providing instruction and coaching on teaching best practice, and by leading on the deployment of technology in the virtual and campus-based classroom. The Unit will work with academic departments to tailor such support to their specific needs, as well as provide generic training programmes as its core business.

The EDU forms part of the Institute of Leadership & Education Advanced Development (ILEAD), which has become one of the leading institutions in promoting education reform and improving the leadership of education practitioners in China. It is dedicated to connecting education professionals who are passionate about innovation, and integrating education practice and theory.


Responsibilities


To liaise with clients to ascertain their needs and to operate or support the use of associated equipment and resources involved in the capture and editing of digital video and audio content.

To coordinate booking of the digital video and audio content capture and production facilities by clients and ensure associated equipment and resources are prepared and ready for use as necessary.

To maintain the digital video and audio content capture and production facilities and ensure associated equipment and resources remain in good working order, organising repairs and upgrades where necessary.

To prepare user guides and other relevant documentation designed to support use of the digital video and audio content capture and production facilities and associated equipment and resources.

To contribute to digital video and audio content capture and production facility inventory records and ensure the security of associated equipment and resources.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant technologies and products in order to inform planning, specification and procurement of equipment and resources for future use in the digital video and audio content capture and production facilities.

Support the development of educational technologies and relevant initiatives across the University.

Liaise and collaborate with ETT colleagues to promote best practices and evaluate the impact of technology-enhanced learning across the University.

Work collaboratively within ILEAD and in particular the EDU to contribute in achieving the strategic ambitions of the University in relation to academic enhancement and excellence in learning, teaching and research, and to contribute in achieving the EDU’s ongoing operational objectives.

Reflect on their own professional practice and keep abreast with current developments in TEL through engagement with the wider community via subject associations, attendance and presentations at conferences, colloquiums and personal development days.

Willing to engage in personal development and training and change the focus of the role, where appropriate, to meet the changing needs of the University.

Carry out any other duties as required, commensurate with the role position and as required to develop the role in line with changes to ongoing University strategy.


Person specification

Education and Experience

Essential:

A Bachelor degree in a related field: digital media production; TV & radio production; educational technology; instructional design.

A minimum of three years relevant work experience

Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable:

A Master degree in a related field: digital media production; TV & radio production; educational technology; instructional design.
Affiliated membership of a recognised national or international related association.

Experience of working in a Higher Education setting.

General and specialist knowledge:

Essential:

Excellent familiarity with digital video and audio production workflows, processes and associated hardware and software e.g. Apple Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, Audition, Photoshop, After Effects.

Sound awareness of cultural diversity within an international environment.

Skills:

Essential:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Excellent customer service orientation and ability to quickly identify and respond to client needs.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse range of individuals and through a variety of media.

Ability to develop projects with faculty and the ability to track and report on project status effectively.

Collaborative approach to organization, with the ability to enlist the support of others across the University.

Demonstrate sound time management and organisation skills, being able to manage work independently in response to changing priorities, circumstances and workload.

Desirable:

An ability to communicate in Chinese would be an added bonus.
