Job Description

The NPI (New Product Introduction) Engineer is responsible for the introduction of new products into manufacturing. A successful NPI engineer is dynamic, driven, organized and detail oriented; excels in technical program/ project management; communicates with ease at all levels; thrives in a fast-passed development environment and works well within a team structure to deliver results.

Role & Responsibilities

  • As a member of the NPI engineering team, work with R&D and Manufacturing teams in leading the introduction of new products.
  • Work closely with the hardware/software design teams; oversee product build-related tasks during the planning, development and validation stages of the project.
  • Plan and execute on your assigned NPI programs. Establish standards for design for manufacturing and lead the definition of manufacturing process requirements for those programs.
  • Engage design engineers and manufacturing team from design and prototype development through product launch to ensure schedule, cost and quality objectives are met.
  • Provide leadership in defining/communicating NPI Operations' requirements early in the product life cycle.
  • Develop test strategies, processes and detailed documented procedures to ensure quality and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate activities relating to Contract Manufacturer's and Operations extended teams to meet both engineering prototype and product launch commitments.
  • Engage with Contract Manufacturers' technical staff to develop on-site test plans, strategies and implementation.
  • Participate in programs aimed at reducing production cycle-times, manufacturing defects and product costs.
  • Participate in the product ECR/ECO process and address all NPI engineering relevant issues.
  • Determine process requirements for new products & measures product performance to those requirements.
  • Develop and release manufacturing work instructions and provide ongoing technical support and training to manufacturing personnel.
  • Define Engineering and production BOM's for release to the supply chain and manufacturing sites.
  • Publish and review DFx reports, including all issues found and resolved during development, as well as yield report and failure analysis.
  • Develop build plans with the project team, driving and coordinating the subsequent builds, lead times and shipments.
