Eaton’s Power Systems Division is currently seeking a Lead Mechancial Engineer, New Product Development to join our team. This position is based at our South Milwaukee, WI facility. Relocation is offered for this opportunity as well as a hybrid work schedule (3 days/week in office & 2 days/week remote). Our Lead Mechanical Engineer, New Product Development is a high impact role that leads the design and development of switchgear and switchgear sub-systems. In this role, creativity and innovation are focused on developing new electro-mechanical product solutions for application on electrical power systems. This position works directly with a broad set of technologies including polymers, vacuum interrupters, electromagnetic actuators, linear drive mechanisms, castings, and metal fabrications. Assignments range in scope from high level system concepts to detailed sub-system development and analysis. This role will participate in large New Product Development projects as the lead system designer or as a subsystem core team member as well as lead small NPD and technology development projects. In this function you will: Leverage digital design and engineering simulation tools to design, develop and integrate switchgear components, subassemblies and final assemblies. Achieve excellence in 3D CAD design skill for one of our key technologies and set development standards for the department in this field. Work closely with suppliers to develop and prototype components. Lead small project teams to deliver requirements meeting schedule, cost and quality targets. Guide early-career engineers in all aspects of engineering. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution 5 years of engineering experience 1 year experience in new product design or development Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future Preferred qualifications: 3+yrs experience of new product design or development Experience with phase gate project management processes Familiar with the electric power industry, especially medium-voltage distribution Demonstrated skills in engineering analysis and digital simulation (CAD, FEA, statistical analysis, software applications, electrical/mechanical analysis tools, etc) Strong product design, DFM/DFA, and manufacturing knowledge with multiple technologies and processes Position Criteria: Excellence in communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in engineering problem solving and root cause analysis Proficiency identifying, evaluating and selecting design alternatives Proficiency verifying design solutions through rigorous test methods and report writing Proficiency implementing design solutions via engineering change management processes We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
