How? Become an Occupational Health Nurse at Abbott. This position is based in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Under general supervision, functions in a dual role of occupational nurse and administrator of the Company’s health and welfare programs.
Manages and maintains accuracy of employee benefits/medical files.
Provides routine medical care to employees as needed and manages the operation of the infirmary. This includes scheduling employee appointments with doctors.
Assists company doctors in providing occupational health services to ABBOTT which may include ergonomic and environmental assessments of work areas as they effect the health and safety of employees. Active participation in area evaluations, coordination of medical brigade activities and training. Prepare monthly statistics of cases reported. Maintain case management records, and coordinates medical surveillance for employees affected by the respiratory protection program, blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation program.
Manages leaves of absence. This includes but is not limited to administering proper paperwork for FMLA, SINOT, LTD, FONDO and other similar leaves. This includes assessment, approval, and tracking of all FMLA leaves and working with payroll and outside vendors to ensure that all corresponding employee records are updated for such leaves.
Acts as liaison between the Company and its medical, life, and disability providers. This may include managing enrollments, processing claims, auditing invoices, and assisting employees understand and use the plan.
Administers company drug testing policy.
Manages special employee events related to employee health and safety. This may include but is not limited to holding health fares, blood pressure screening, blood drives, and other special employee events that may occur on her shift as part of a larger company initiative.
Provides infirmary statistics for use in assessing the use of and effectiveness of Infirmary services.
Serves as a liaison to the HR Generalist and Supervisors to identify absenteeism causes.
Supports planning of emergency response drills and supports medical response efforts during an emergency.
Ensure compliance with all ABBOTT procedures and all applicable regulatory agency requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following qualifications:
Nursing degree with a current Puerto Rico licensure required.
5+ years of relevant experience. Working in a manufacturing setting as an occupational nurse is preferred. Experience working as part of a Human Resources Department is a plus.
Bi-lingual English/Spanish.
Must have good organizational skills to maintain accuracy of employee medical files.
Good computer skills preferred especially in excel and Word.
Must be a self-starter with initiative to manage infirmary services for the company while acting alone in his/her shift.
Must have knowledge of leave and benefit law in order to independently manage company leave programs.
