Oncology Therapeutic Area Medical Lead

Main Duties And Responsibilities
As the Oncology TA Medical Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. You will lead the Medical input to business strategic and operational planning for the Oncology therapy area and defined brands, including development of local Brand Medical plans, pre- and peri-launch medical plans. You will lead a high-performing medical team delivering clinical insights, patient centricity and customer focus.
- The Oncology TA Medical Lead will provide strategic direction, expertise and leadership to the oncology medical team and business unit; leading the local evidence generation and medical activity planning and ensuring execution of medical affairs objectives aligned with business goals.The TA lead will also:
- Foster high value collaborations and network building internally and with external Oncology medical and academic experts, institutions and other stakeholders.
- Lead also provides leadership to the customer facing oncology medical science liaison (MSL) team via driving field medical excellence
- Lead directs and supports the Oncology medical function to ensure operational effectiveness, efficiencies through a continuous improvement approach and ensures optimal use of medical budget and resources to support our Oncology portfolio
Accountabilities
- Support the implementation of the overall oncology business strategy in a highly cross functional model.
- Provide strong leadership in managing the team of Medical Managers, Medical Advisors, field-based MSL Team.
- Develop high-performing medical team including mentoring, performance management, talent management, training and career development.
- Driving high level of ethics, quality and integrity complying with all relevant standards, regulations and legislation.
- Accountability for the team’s and individuals’ level of competence as well as their compliance to current legal requirements and internal standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing therapeutic area expertise and insights and ensuring high scientific knowledge in the team.
- Driving local Oncology evidence generation and publication planning and ensuring timely execution of local studies based on country specific unmet medical needs
- Supervising the TA Medical Affair’s, activities, goal attainment and ensuring operational excellence.
- Establishing strong collaborations between the Medical Affairs team and other local functions including Commercial, Market access and government affairs Establishing strong working interfaces between the Medical Affairs team and other AZ functions including Global and Regional (CEE and Europe) Oncology Medical and R&D Groups .
- Collaborating effectively with GMA, GMD, Regional TA Medical Group and other key stakeholders on relevant projects and activities.
- Create and manage budget and allocation of Medical resources according to the overall strategy.
- Establishing impactful networks with external medical experts, academic and research stakeholders and institutions within the TA
- Ensuring that medical activities and tasks are executed at highest quality and in accordance with written procedures and current legal requirements and internal standards.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Master degree in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry or natural sciences and/or postgraduate qualification relevant to Oncology
- At least 5 years experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or Clinical Research Organisation
- At least 3 years of Medical Affairs experience preferably working in Oncology TA
- Oncology and/or related clinical/medical practice or academic experience is an advantage
- Team management experience and track record of strong team leadership is an advantage
- Excellent understanding of Polish health care systems and payer environment
- Proven ability in mentoring, educating and developing colleagues
- Good understanding of Pharmaceutical Development (e.g. Clinical Research and R&D strategy)
- Excellent knowledge of English language
- Excellence in working in a cross functional, multi-stakeholder environment
- Business oriented thinking
- Proven ability to understand, assimilate and communicate scientific information
- Ability to build strong professional relationships internally and externally
- High ethical standard
