If you are our Operating System and Software Engineer - Workstations in Taiwan, you will have a chance to:

This position is for an experienced system/software engineer in an R&D team that delivers operating systems (OS) and value add applications for HP Workstations customers. This position is in the Workstations Business Unit and is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Windows based software images (i.e. OS, drivers, and applications) as well as creating test plans for Windows based products. This position also includes testing and troubleshooting related to Microsoft platform compliance requirements. The Workstation R&D OS team is responsible for quality engineered software images in the product development and sustaining phases of a product’s lifecycle. Critical to the success of this position is building strong relationships with worldwide colleagues and key partners in Supply Chain, Marketing, TCE/Quality, and ODM suppliers. This requires excellent Mandarin communication skills and strong English communication skills.

This position is based with a team in Taipei and has very limited travel, and is under management based in the United States.

Responsibilities Include:

• Develop OS, driver, and application software images for Workstation computers that comply with defined manufacturing process.
• Develop and implement test plans and processes to qualify software images and components.
• Execute test plans provided by Microsoft for platform certification, and troubleshoot issues discovered.
• Document and develop engineering design specifications specific to software requirements.
• Troubleshoot/debug software and hardware problems related to the operating system, applications, drivers, and services.
• Implement appropriate troubleshooting to quickly determine best course for problem resolution.
• Define and comply with project standards, schedules, and processes related to producing a high quality product
• Provide full documentation and specifications for all responsible checkpoint deliverables
• Design, develop and improve products, processes and components.
• Work closely with other developers to ensure design compliance and operating system compatibility with system and platform specific applications.

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Information Management.

• Thorough understanding of Microsoft's family of operating systems and architectures is required
• Experience with deployment technologies such as system cloning, sysprep, or OOBE
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as WSH, VBScript, or Batch programming a big plus
• Strong troubleshooting/debugging skills
• Strong analytical and technical abilities
• Basic shell script knowledge to read scripts, understand them, and modify them as needed.
• Ability to lift and move computers weighing up to 30 pounds.
