Job Description

Core Work:

• Provide primary supervision of operators within the operating unit.
• Supervises activities to ensure safety, quality, production rates, and environmental compliance.
• Implements policies and provides the information and solutions required by area leadership.
• Fulfills on-site area leadership during off-hours.
• Ensures crew quality through training, development, and discipline.

Competencies:

• Provides leadership and formal / informal training of unit operators.
• Strong communication/interpersonal relationship skills.

Accountabilities -- Provide Leadership to:

• Sustain an operating culture that has a high degree of safety awareness and environmental responsibility.
• Drive operator performance so as to reach production and quality targets.
• Hold operators accountable for routine operations.
• Ensure operators are trained and developed.
• Ensure accurate, complete permits are written and LOTO carried out on time, and per site policy.
• Foster strong cooperation between Maintenance and Production personnel.
• Maintain critical communications between areas regarding raw materials, utilities, and waste treatment systems.

Key Activities:

• Provide daily direction, and continuous development of operators.
• Initiate all operator disciplinary actions and evaluations.
• Monitor housekeeping and ensure high standards are met.
• Consult and direct routine maintenance tasks performed by operators.
• Review/consult with operators on safe work permits and LOTO.
• Ensure MOCs are read and signed off by operators and write Emergency MOCs during off-shifts.
• Approves confined space entry permits.
• Serve as ERT Incident Commanders / Operations Chief
• Provide support towards resolution of troubleshooting/ process upsets.
• Manage operator scheduling.
• Operator payroll approval via Workforce system.
• Assist in shutdown planning for the area.

Requirements:

• Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts
• Able to work in confined spaces, high places and wear required PPE, when necessary
• Be able to lift 25-50 lb. frequently, 50-100 lbs occasionally with necessary assistance
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders frequently
• Must be able to wear respiratory protection
• Work environment ranges from indoors to outside in varying degrees of heat and cold weather conditions
