Job Description
Position Overview The Operations Software Support role will develop and maintain software tools for the GCI business. Existing software programs have been developed over time using Visual Basic for Applications (Excel), Visual Studio, C# Windows Application, and Office 365 power app programming systems. Candidate must be proficient in coding / troubleshooting software developed in each platform. Software tools in some cases may reside or interface with database, quotations, and/or ERP systems – candidate must be proficient in understanding interfaces / linkages clearly. Tool maintenance may include: product BOM updates, adding or improving functionality, resolving path / linkage issues, troubleshooting errors seen by users, etc. Candidate must be comfortable in communicating tool changes to global organization. Candidate must be highly detailed and able to check / debug own work. New tool development will also be a focus. Automation improvement ideas may be presented by operations, sales, service, or quality teams within GCI - candidate must be able to work independently to create tools based on team needs and feedback. Candidate will work closely with the GC (Gas Chromatograph) / SI (System Integration) engineering teams – expectation is for him / her to be able to identify further tools / automation needs to improve processes, efficiency, and/or output quality. Most of the software tools were created to support the GC product – which has a high level of complexity. Candidate must have a strong technical background along with the capability and willingness to gain a deep understanding of a product features/options. The role will also be the operations lead for current and future global initiatives focused on database, quotations, and/or ERP (SAP) systems tool improvement with IT involvement. Lead role will document future improvements, prioritize actions based on value add, and validate system updates – all while coordinating with IT & tool stakeholders (using the Agile approach). Candidate must be comfortable leading teams and possess strong communication skills. This position will report to the Solutions Manager within the operations team of the GCI Business Segment. The role is an individual contributor role and does not have any direct reports. Responsibilities - Development & maintenance of software tools for GCI. - Leads global IT improvement initiatives with focus on enhancing functionality-automation within database, quotations, and ERP systems. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience - BS Degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics. - Strong Visual Basic for Applications (Excel), Visual Studio, C# Windows Application, and Office 365 power app programming skills. - Strong knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) & SAP - 5+ years in development, maintenance, & ownership of business software tools. - <10% Travel required. - Where permitted by applicable law, Siemens may require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 based on job requirements, and in accordance with an accommodation based on legally protected reasons. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience - Gas Chromatography principles, design (mechanical, electrical, chemical), and software. - Working knowledge of signal communications protocol: Modbus, OPC, TCP/IP Ethernet. - Project experience in the field at a petrochemical or refinery site. - Siemens, Allen Bradley, & GE PLC & HMI programming experience - Analyzer System Manager (ASM) or other similar software (AMADAS) – knowledge, setup & support. #LI-VM1 Organization: Digital Industries Company: Siemens Industry, Inc.
