ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads Product Development for Cooper Standard Products and Systems.
2. Directs Associate PD Managers and Engineers for daily product development activities.
3. Ensures designs meet all functional customer specifications & SOR requirements and Cooper Standard design guidelines & best practices.
4. Identifies risks of designed products and set up mitigation plans.
5. Liaison between the Customer sheet metal and sealing release engineers, internal and external CAD designers, CSA manufacturing plants and outside suppliers of molds, tooling and commercial components.
6. Leads and manages functional, program specific development team of Product Design Engineers and CAD Designers.
7. Responsible for communicating program concerns to Account Manager and Product Development & Engineering Manager.
8. Responsible for program design status including design time lines and drawing schedules.
9. Responsible for coordinating regular design reviews (drawing reviews) and providing design status updates.
10. Responsible for DFMEA’s and DVP&R’s.
11. Responsible for Design Reviews.
12. Responsible to create the DVP & PV test plan based on the customer specification.
13. Assists in all product VE/VA reviews.
14. Leads and coaches 4-D problem solving process and summarizes lessons learned and submits to global Lessons Learned Champion and related SMEs.
15. Participates in 8-Discipline corrective action writing with manufacturing divisions to assure timely and permanent problem resolution after launch. Lead 8-D corrective action writing prior to launch.
16. Leads the engineering portion of the APQP process and input into portal.
17. Implements engineering changes.
18. Participates in vehicle builds/testing and track identified problems through to resolution.
19. Leads and supports business unit at customer management meetings.
20. Manages and Mentors program teams as needed.
21. Helps define technology requirements for the business unit.
22. Ensures that housekeeping, health and safety standards are maintained.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. A Bachelor of Science or Engineering is required.
2. 8+ years of experience in the design of Cooper Standard’s products.
3. At least 12 years of experience in automotive industry in engineering positions.
4. Knowledge of OEM functional performance requirements.
5. Practicable experience as a liaison between the customer engineers, internal and external CAD designers, manufacturing plants as well as outside suppliers of tooling and subcomponents.
6. Proficiency in communicating program concerns to account managers and engineering managers.
7. Experience in creating and managing component development and design time lines.
8. Proficiency in coordinating regular product design reviews including drawing reviews and providing management regular design status updates.
9. Knowledge and experience in conducting product VE/VA reviews.
10. Experience in resolving vehicle integration issues.
11. Proficiency at 8-Discipline corrective action facilitation with manufacturing divisions to assure timely and permanent problem resolution.
12. Knowledge of the customer and internal APQP processes.
13. Successful evaluation and identification of customer vehicle build and validation problems.
14. Excellent written and spoken English skills
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Must have experience with Cooper Standard products, Car Body & Exterior Design, Sheet metal design, Design of Car Exterior or interior components.
2. Must have good technical and mechanical aptitude.
3. Through understanding of DFMEA’s, DVP&R’s, PFMEA’s, Control Plans, APQP’s and 8D’s.
4. Good written and spoken presentation skills.
5. Knows Customer specifications and requirements.
6. Should have computer skills including the following software programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project, CATIA or other 3D CAD software.
7. In-depth experience with drawing layouts, sections, part detailing, and GD&T.
8. Ability to work with all levels of the OEM organization.
9. Ability to influence, motivate and control situations.
10. Ability to set program direction offering win-win decisions.
11. Articulating customer requirements throughout Cooper Standard.
