Job Description

Eaton’s Vehicle division is currently seeking a Packaging Engineer. This position will be based at our Logistics Center in Indianapolis, IN.  

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the overall management packaging strategy and implementation. The Packaging Engineer ensures through collaboration with key partners that objectives are achieved at the lowest cost, consistent with customer and quality requirements.

Skills and responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
  • Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market.
  • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
  • Work closely with Engineering to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Packaging or Materials
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • No relocation is offered. Only candidates that reside within a 50-mile radius will be considered. Active-duty military is exempt from the geographical mile limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Packaging Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Masters of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Prior experience with industrial/manufacturing packaging
  • APICS CSCP or CPIM Certification
  • Proficiency in Auto CAD.

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, communication and team building skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Detailed, analytical, results oriented
  • Ability to motivate team members to drive for results
  • In-depth knowledge of packaging solutions
