Paint Shop Materials & Automation Co-op (Spring 2022)

Job Description

This is a co-op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: spring, 2nd rotation: fall, 3rd rotation: summer).

Provide assembly with premium quality painted bodies. Strenuous production volume targets and equipment functionality / materials are held to high standards. Any material defect that arises must be immediately contained and root-caused to prevent from reoccurrence.  Paint shop consumes the largest amount of natural resources across the plant; it is crucial to constantly work on ways to reduce energy consumption and water usage for sustainable production of BMW X-Vehicles.

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Maintain quality of all materials in paint shop
  • Validate and integrate new materials
  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Manage paint suppliers and escalation topics
  • Various production-critical tasks
  • Launching BMW Individual Colors and Matte Colors
  • Trialing new materials (PVC, wax, clearcoat, etc.)
  • Energy reduction projects

  • Engineering Degree
  • Knowledge of Thermodynamics
  • Willingness to work in a production environment
  • Flexible; good at multitasking and prioritizing
  • Good at working with people
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.  
  • THE WORK TERM DATES ARE (January 3, 2022 - May 6, 2022)
