The appointee shall assist the Project Investigator in conducting the research project “Yes-no questions and answers in natural conversations: A study of Hong Kong Cantonese” and mainly be responsible for the following:
- transcribing the spoken language data in Cantonese;
- translating the data into English;
- conducting preliminary data analysis; and
- carrying out other relevant tasks as assigned by the Project Investigator.
Requirements
Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:
- a recognized Bachelor’s degree or above in Linguistics or other language-related disciplines;
- native proficiency in Hong Kong Cantonese;
- excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
- competency in computer skills (e.g.Chinese and English word processing);
- a strong sense of responsibility, and be able to work independently as well as in a team; and
- preference will be given to those with good knowledge of Jyutping and the Leipzig glossing rules.
Compensation Package
Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary part-time contract starting from July 2020 for 3 months (or earlier based on mutual agreement between the appointee and the Project Investigator). Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
