Position Overview

A Whittle School & Studios' graduate is an independent thinker and a compassionate, humble, lifelong learner who desires to contribute to the world. Our emphasis on project- and place-based learning encourages students to weave connections among the artistic, academic, social, and emotional threads of their learning. Part of a passionate and exceptional professional community, the Performing Arts teacher will employ interdisciplinary content across disciplines to teach drama (theatre), dance, comedy, literary presentations, visual arts, and performing arts. The Teacher will also collaborate with the local performing arts community on performances and instruction and will integrate technology applications into performances (an example being a keyboard recital with dancers and multi-media art integrated into the performance). Experience in and passion about teaching young learners and nurturing their creativity and enthusiasm are essential. Familiarity and training with the philosophies of the schools of Reggio Emilia are preferred.

The following are highly desirable qualifications for the listed position:

  • Bachelor's degree BA/BS in specific field or post graduate work in subject matter required
  • Master's level degree or above in content area preferred
  • Linguistic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese highly desirable
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment
  • Participates in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and other collaborative communities to design and plan instructions, to improve practice, and to achieve student outcomes
  • Drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
