PhD Thesis - Integrating Quantum Computing Into Automation
SIEMENSMuenchenUpdate time: February 21,2023
Job Description
Mode of Employment: Limited; 17,5 hours/week Use your knowledge as a springboard. The research project QCHALLenge (link to website) investigates hybrid quantum-classical optimization algorithms for use cases from logistics and production line management. In this context, the integration of quantum computing into automation solutions is explored. Since the considered use cases involve challenging optimization problems that cannot be trivially mapped to a “quantum-ready” problem formulation, several research questions arise which will be addressed in the scope of this PhD project: What is a systematic way to divide a given optimization problem into subproblems, some of which can be solved by hybrid quantum algorithms and others by classical computing? How can the computing infrastructure of quantum and classical devices be considered to evaluate the expected performance for solving each of the subproblems? How can the problem structure be analyzed to find an optimal partitioning in an automated manner? Change the future with us. Contribute to excellent applied research in autonomous systems, control, and robotics Advance academic results for use in commercially relevant applications Observe the international research landscape and analyze technological trends Independently study new methods and approaches in quantum computing, quantum optimization, and their integration to automation Implement and manage subprojects in the research project QCHALLenge Closely cooperate with research partners, customers, and colleagues in the team and optionally supervise working students and student theses Benefit from the Siemens PhD network and the dedicated mentoring by Siemens employees What you need to make real what matters. Successfully completed master’s degree in mathematics, physics, computer science or a related field of study Experience with state-of-the-art methods and approaches to quantum computing Knowledge of quantum physics, quantum optimization, or classical optimization methods would be an advantage Solid knowledge of modern software design and development in Python or C/C++ Business fluent German and English skills are desirable Make your mark in our exciting world at Siemens. www.siemens.de if you wish to find out more about Siemens before applying.
