YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Phenotypic Insights Lead, are to: 

 

  • Use a combination of modeling techniques to determine key environmental features that contribute to genotype by environmental response;
  • Establish a set of key temporal data for model development and refinement and employ causal discovery methods to identify insights into important phenotypes;
  • Build a suite of environmental models that enable refinement of field testing data collection and evolution of testing strategy;
  • Build a simulation model;
  • Establish a functional phenomics platform and identify a set of key phenotypes for use in modeling;
  • Partner with other groups within Breeding to identify key germplasm for high resolution phenotyping, determine the set of phenotypic metrics that will enable differentiation between genotypes and establish POCs in order to develop a core dataset on that germplasm;
  • Work with others in Phenomics and the testing teams to determine the scalability of any phenotypic metric that is potentially predictive an implement if possible;
  • Support envirotyping needs within Breeding;
  • Represent Breeding in the phenomics modeling space;
  • Lead a team of six to seven direct reports with responsibility for directing their technical skills and personal development;
  • Develop team members within the career ladder framework in APD;
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership across APD and Breeding in modeling and functional phenomics.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with at least eight years of experience or Master’s degree with at least 12 years of related experience or a B.S. with at least 14 experience in Meteorology, Physics, Advanced Mathematics, Climatology, Mechanical Engineering, Plant Physiology or a related field;
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the development and implementation of new strategies in emerging research areas;
  • Extensive knowledge of state of the art modeling techniques and theory;
  • Demonstrated track record of solving challenging and complex problems using large data sets and a wide range of advanced approaches;
  • Experience in method development and the ability to define and implement desired technical strategies;
  • Exceptional leadership, verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills will be required to negotiate scope/resources, and synchronize activities with team members, stakeholders and management.
