APPLIED PATHOLOGY PHENOTYPING SPECIALIST LEAD

 

The primary focus of the role is to coordinate all aspects of phenotypic testing conducted by Applied Pathology at a given testing location/site, which include planning, coordination of activities, data collection and reporting, managing resources and leading people working in greenhouses, growth chambers and laboratories. You will collaborate closely with other Applied Pathology Team members, various partners across the R&D, Product Supply and Commercial teams to ensure we deliver on disease testing KPIs.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages operations of complex nature in diverse facilities (growth rooms, laboratories, greenhouses) and provides direction to personnel (research specialists and contractors) to deliver on testing commitments.
  • Solves routine to complex problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning and application of scientific principles to design and interpret experiments.
  • Delivers high-quality testing results in a timely manner and with optimal efficiency to meet or exceed KPIs.
  • Monitors KPIs to identify bottlenecks, propose solutions and act promptly to resolve problems.
  • Leads or supports the improvement of existing disease assays or operational processes.
  • Champions digital tools and IT workflows for data entry, data storage and data return, and supports other personnel in using digital tools.
  • Provides training and coaching to research specialists or temporary personnel.
  • Champions phytosanitation procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following HSE guidelines

 

YOUR KEY WORKING RELATIONS
Vegetable R&D Research Specialists and Scientists in Breeding Technology, Breeding and Testing, and Analytics and Pipeline Design and other Vegetable R&D functions or collaborators in Crop Science R&D. Product Supply, Commercial teams, Industry and academic partners or collaborators.


WHO YOU ARE

  • MS in plant pathology or related field with 2+ years of experience in R&D setting or BS with 5+ years  of experience.
  • Broad technical experience across pathogens/pests.
  • Excellent command of enterprise IT tools, effective use of digital tools for data collection and ability to analyze and visualize data.
  • Strong operational excellence acumen and ability to drive operational improvements in disease phenotyping.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand local testing capabilities and translate into medium-term tactical plans.
  • Strong oral and written communication in English and local language.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels and lead teams.
