Job Description

PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Photographer – Level 1 is entry level into this studio environment. This photographer will learn our process, lighting, communication and equipment. They will work only in a supervised environment.

This position must be able to use all photography equipment within the studio. The photographer must be able to communicate and take control of their individual success.  This will involve the participation in preproduction meetings, what is expected on set for styling, QC of all items before they hit the set, completing training, oversight of set operations, make sure all hours are tracked, track all expense sheets and receipts for turn in, and confirm participation in a postmortem.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Project Manager on making sure all facets of daily shoot are successful from planning through creation. Provides accurate time estimations for scheduling and client estimates.
  • Participates in Pre-Production meetings, Postmortems and image review process.
  • Provides accurate time estimations for scheduling and client estimates.
  • Directs a client-free photography set with supervision from a level 2 or above photographer – which includes finalizing the work plan and flow with stylists and models.
  • Building the set as needed and tear down.  Including the return and storage of equipment.  Escalating any repair needs to the studio manager immediately.
  • Create lighting diagrams and communicate how specific lighting is done.
  • Execute images per the style guide and job worksheet validating the quality control of your work.
  • Process image according to job specifications, transfer to next workflow stage.
  • Document file names, complete notes on job spreadsheet, and report daily status on workload to studio manager, project manager and executive team.
  • Keep an organized workspace, to studio standards, both on the computer and the shooting environment.
  • Style projects when appropriate and as necessary.
  • Must turn in all proper documentation on time. This will include expense reports, reimbursement forms and time off requests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Position requires handling multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring seamless execution through stellar organizational and time management skills.
  • Candidate should demonstrate planning skills and the ability to prioritize using information around due dates, clients, internal resource skill sets and when to escalate for assistance and awareness. 
  • Communication is performed in person and digitally through phone, email, and video.  During a shoot if the client is on set, you will always present the studio and yourself in a professional manner. The expectation is to balance listening and talking, writing clearly and accurately any decisions, influencing client relationships in a positive manner and keeping both the team and client informed.  
  • Ability to work both independently and within a changing team.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules. 
  • Being respectful and courteous when interacting with others.  A calm and collaborative demeanor is expected when working through conflict.
  • Experience using Microsoft office.  Within MS Excel, the candidate should be able sort a list by applying multiple filter settings, apply conditional formatting, populate a new column of data in an existing spreadsheet, and accurately fill in appropriate cells to show completion and status.
  • Experience using MAC operating systems is desired.
  • Experience using digital communication tools such as Webex or Skype chat tools is desired.
  • Experience in utilizing production workflow management tools is desired. (Example: Workhorse)
  • Desire experience with Capture One, Canon, Hassellblad, and ProPhoto lighting.
  • Must have proficient basic math skills and ability to read, write, and speak English.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by this position.

  • Ability to work in an environment of repeating flashing lights (strobes) and stand or work on a cement studio floor for up to a full workday.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time for up to full workday as needed.
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e. table sets, prepping, steaming, pinning, data entry). 
  • Must be able to see and hear in order to gather and input information; respond to face-to-face and telephone inquiries. 
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in low light conditions, with lamps versus overhead lighting.
  • Ability to walk throughout a warehouse floor following our internal safety guidelines.
  • Travel requirements may be up to 10% of time. A valid passport with the ability to travel outside of your country of residence is necessary. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates will have a higher education degree, certificate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year professional photography experience that should include assisting a commercial photographer or videographer.
  • Up to six months of freelance commercial photographer experience,
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates product photography.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
