YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Plant Genotyping Scientist I, are to: 

 

  • Have primary or shared project responsibility of a complex nature involving genotyping;
  • Conduct research and contributes to research projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property or trade secrets;
  • Be accountable for cross-functional work in multiple platforms/process areas;
  • Solve complex problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
  • Lead workflow optimization and method validation projects using multiple data sources;
  • Use specialized knowledge, the broad application of scientific principles and current literature when identifying and implementing process improvements;
  • Motivate and manage contingent workforce to execute various lab analysis in a high throughput setting. Coordinates work across peers and contingent workforce to ensure delivery daily/weekly production targets;
  • Prioritize and coordinate work within a large team and provides training to contingent workforce; maintaining detailed record keeping and required documentation;
  • Achieve commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and best practices;
  • Thrive on meeting challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and possess the ability to build productive external and internal relationships;
  • Communicate and interpret the results of experiments, production KPIs, cost/benefit analysis and lab related issues to partners and key stakeholders;
  • Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • B.S with at least five years relevant experience OR M.S. with at least two years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. with relevant experience;
  • Strong molecular biology acumen with the ability to independently design experiments and analyze data;
  • High throughput laboratory automation experience with mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting automation;
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software;
  • Experience using automated systems and LIMS systems;
  • Experience with iso/quality management systems and defining and using key performance indicators to measure lab and workflow health.
