Job Description
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Plant and Facilities Engineer to join the dedicated Facilities team at our high volume train maintenance depot at Northampton, Kings Heath. The purpose-built depot: a Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock business: maintains the Class 350 fleets which carry millions of passengers annually between Liverpool and London. Our Facilities team provides first line response to all aspects of the building, plant and site infrastructure and manages any required inspections, maintenance work and service visits. In this role, you will be responsible for performing planned and reactive maintenance activities on facility and infrastructure assets. This will include regular inspection of all aspects of the facility to promote maximum availability. You will manage external contractor resource, promoting safe working practices to best meet availability targets. You will also consult with your line manager in developing and implementing maintenance, rework and repair strategies and implementing new procedures and depot improvements. This role is based at our Northampton facility five days a week, therefore ideally you will live within a commutable distance from the Kings Heath depot. What part will you play? Complete preventative and reactive maintenance service calls and requests as required by the computerized maintenance management system Agility. Undertake maintenance, inspection, and repair of depot plant in accordance with the agreed maintenance regimes. Check the facility’s performance using the Building Management System daily for any alarms and rectify as applicable. Carry out regular weekly walk rounds of the site to identify any facility asset deterioration, report and repair as needed and be first line for any alterations or new equipment required. Ensure spares are identified and managed in line with the spares inventory. Perform planned maintenance work and manage contractors to ensure the safe and successful completion of service tasks and statutory inspections. Be aware of and promote a positive Health and Safety culture. Investigate all near miss reports. Skills and qualifications needed to succeed in this role Essential: Proven experience in plant and facilities maintenance on both electrical and mechanical systems. Electrically-biased engineer with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline. Electrical wiring competency in accordance with the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Strong organization and planning skills. Experience in fault finding and the ability to understand and interpret drawings and wiring diagrams. Driving licence as the ability to travel to outstation sites is essential. Willingness to undertake training to drive cherry pickers and fork lift trucks (if not already licensed). Previous experience in managing contractors on site. Preferred: Advanced Health and Safety knowledge with an understanding of the relevant legislation and in particular experience of carrying out risk assessments. Basic understanding of plumbing. Basic understanding of Building Management Systems. IOSH Managing safely to be able to produce and approve depot maintenance packages. About us We’re Siemens.
