Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are advertising a 2-year post-doctorate position as part of the IMI project Resolution. The aim of this project is to discover therapeutic targets among the solute carrier (SLC) group of human membrane transporters. Your role within this project will be to support genetic validation of potential targets and develop a framework that allows for genetic assessment at scale across all SLCs.

In addition to working with the IMI partners, you will be based in the Biomedical Data Science group in Bayer. BDS is a recently founded group within the Digital Technologies function within Pharmaceuticals R&D at Bayer. Its objective is to deliver novel insights on therapeutic mechanisms and patient populations through analysis of large, complex datasets, in collaboration with internal and external partners, including world leading institutions like the BROAD institute.

  • Be responsible for the design and conduct of complex analyses in order to identify novel targets, biomarkers and other insights relevant for the translation of SLC hypotheses into clinical development stages covering multiple diseases
  • Be in charge of relevant datasets, which will include (but are not limited to) large scale human genetic, transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomics data
  • Liaise and interface with researchers from various backgrounds (biology, medicine, pharmacology, chemistry) in order to identify critical points in this project, and provide appropriate solutions for such critical points through analyses of available complex datasets
  • Be responsible for the continuous process of improving the available set of state of the art analytical tools (for both, scientists with or without a data science background)
  • Identify additional appropriate data sources and datasets, including for example through collaboration with external institutions

WHO YOU ARE

  • Master and PhD or equivalent in life sciences (bioinformatics, chemistry, biology, medicine, physics, informatics) with very strong computational/statistical focus, and ideally some experience in human genetics and/or epidemiology
  • Experience abroad, e.g. short post-doc experience
  • High self-motivation and strive for scientific excellence as well as strong analytical thinking and scientific rigor
  • Ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks as well as to present complex issues clearly and convincingly to project teams
  • Demonstrated potential for leadership and good soft skills
  • Ability to support innovation and future-oriented concepts
  • IT & programming & analysis skills (e.g. R, Python), ideally familiar with high performance computing
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
