Job Description

A Post-Doctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Rastinejad’s laboratory at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, in Lake Nona, Florida.  This position provides an exceptional opportunity to enhance the candidate’s past training in X-ray crystallography, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or cell biology.  The research training will emphasize protein expression through a variety of innovative methods, biochemical characterization of pure proteins, their crystallization and structure determination through modern macromolecular X-ray crystallography/diffraction methods.  Selected candidate will additionally become exposed to high throughput drug-screening efforts in which the laboratory collaborates wit the Conrad-Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics within the same Institute.

The transcription factors to be studied are nuclear hormone receptors and mammalian bHLH-PAS proteins.  Recent studies within Dr. Rastinejad’s laboratory have led to breakthroughs in the structural visualization of multi-domain transcription factors in a variety of functionally revealing complexes that include bound DNA, small-molecule ligands and coregulators.  The new projects will involve intensive protein biochemistry, crystal growth and structure calculation and refinement based on X-ray diffraction data.  The high-throughput screens will also be integrated throughout the structural biology training program, with the goal of identifying potent small-molecules that act as activators and inhibitors of transcription factors.

Required Education & Experience

Requires a Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Candidates who have strong research experience in X-ray crystallography, protein purification and biochemical binding studies, molecular biology, and/or cell-biology are strongly preferred. Ideal candidate would be motivated, possess excellent written and oral communication skills and possess a strong desire and ability to work as a team in a collaborative environment.  Interested candidates should apply with full CV, statement of research interests and list of references via SBPdiscovery.org">LakenonaRecruitment(at)SBPdiscovery.org
