The lab of Menno van Lookeren Campagne in the Oncology and Inflammation Research Department at Amgen is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study how crosstalk between immune cells and stromal cells controls epithelial barrier function during homeostasis and disease.

The postdoctoral fellow will be based at our South San Francisco site and share access to state-of-the-art technology and core facilities.

The initial focus of the postdoctoral fellow is to explore how immune cells and subepithelial fibroblasts control intestinal epithelial cell renewal and malignant transformation. Utilizing human and mouse intestinal organoids, genetically engineered mice and models of intestinal inflammation and cancer, you will have the opportunity to identify novel cell-specific regulatory pathways and to dissect their impact on the tissue microenvironment in vitro and in vivo. The position is ideal for those seeking to understand the fundamentals of therapeutic discovery and translational biology while focusing on understanding basic mechanisms underlying chronic inflammation and cancer.

The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged and expected to develop an independent line of research based on initial studies and to present at scientific conferences and publish in leading journals. The successful candidate will operate in the context of a highly collaborative environment, with ample opportunities to interact with other postdoctoral fellows, scientists, and drug discovery teams while having access to state-of-the art technologies and resources including single-cell omics, human genetics and in vitro and in vivo models.

The postdoctoral position is for 3 years with the option to extend for an additional year.

Basic qualifications

• PhD at the time of appointment

Preferred qualifications

• Ph.D. in immunology, cancer immunology, cell-biology or molecular biology
• Have independent research skills such as the design, execution and interpretation of experimental results as demonstrated by previous publications
