Postdoctoral Fellow

Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) project tenable at the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research.

Applicants should (i) have a PhD in Education, Social Science, or a related discipline from a recognised university (for Postdoctoral Fellow); OR a Master’s degree plus at least four years of post-qualification experience (for Research Associate); (ii) have solid academic training in a specialised field relevant to the research focus of the project; (iii) have demonstrated skills in delivery of research tasks, data analysis (experience with statistical software; STATA knowledge is a plus), academic writing, and strength in communication and co-ordination; and (iv) embrace an international outlook, with a good knowledge of international standards and practice in a given specialised field.

Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Institute, the appointee is expected to support data collection and develop the research infrastructure of the project. Specifically, he/she will undertake the following tasks: (a) assisting the Co-Directors in managing, co-ordinating, and implementing the research activities; (b) drafting research questions and plans and designing research methods; (c) overseeing data collection and analyses from national/provincial government and selected schools, developing a data depository, customising research instruments (e.g. questionnaire, interview guiding questions) and analysing the qualitative and quantitative data; (d) conducting field research in selected schools; (e) presenting research findings in regular meetings and drafting reports; (f) assisting in the preparation of presentations at academic conferences, and drafting and editing academic papers for publication; and (g) identifying sources for research funding and submitting grant applications.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing September 2020, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
