Eaton’s Corporate Technology Office (CTO) Division is currently seeking a Power Electronics/Machine Learning Researcher. This position is based at our Southfield, MI, facility on a hybrid schedule. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to a transformational project developing artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) aided model-based systems engineering methods. The ultimate goal is to design innovative power electronics solutions for transportation electrification applications through the development of advanced computing methods. The incumbent will join a world-class research team including internal and external partners to deliver on research and commercialization projects jointly funded by Eaton and government research agencies. In this function you will: Plans and executes research activities in AI/ML aided power electronics design and tool development including coordination of the activities of internal and external research partners. Uses state of the art concepts to advance the technology base, develop competencies, and identify strategies for creating competitive advantage through design automation. Remain current on relevant scientific and industry trends and state-of-the-art techniques Be knowledgeable of the state-of-the-art concepts and principles of AI/ML aided design and well versed in various power electronics modeling and simulation tools. Be knowledgeable in the fundamental concepts and principles of power electronics including power electronics design, module packaging, thermal management, manufacturing methods and validation testing. Be familiar with the state of the art in power electronics technology, packaging of wide bandgap devices, and high frequency passive components. Apply sound experimental protocols required for research and product development Interface with external partners on collaborative programs. Presents research findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders to inform technology strategy, aid deployment of capabilities and support investment decisions Contribute towards new proposals to external funding agencies When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: PhD in applicable engineering domain 5 years of relevant experience or new PhD graduate depending upon experience in relevant research areas Strong theoretical and technical background in power electronics design, modeling and simulation tools and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning aided design Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
