Eaton has an opening for a Power Electronics Specialist located in Raleigh, NC. The Power Electronics Specialist will develop innovative solutions for our power conversion and circuit protection products. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing power electronics circuits, platforms, and systems for power conversion and circuit protection applications. This position requires an excellent understanding of modern power converter topologies, a strong design and analysis capability, and significant modeling and simulation experience using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, Ansys Maxwell, or Ansys Q3D Extractor. In this role you will: Lead power electronics design and development activities and demonstrate start-finish ownership for the assigned tasks Perform design, modeling, simulation, and development of power electronics, including analog/digital electronics and magnetics, for power conversion and circuit protection Develop technical requirements for the designs, create technical reports and presentations Build and measure test circuits, analyze data to improve/optimize the design in terms of performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability Collaborate with and support mechanical, PCB layout, and firmware engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Minimum 8 years in power electronics engineering Significant modeling, simulation, and analysis experience using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, or PLECS Expertise in the use of FEA electromagnetic design tools such as Ansys Maxwell and HFSS for the inductor and transformer designs Experience with using ANSYS Q3D Extractor for identification of parasitic parameters Proven hands-on experience with power converter hardware development and testing Ability to learn new skills, knowledge, industry, or products Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with a focus on power electronics Strong knowledge of power semiconductors, power electronics passive components (e.g., high-frequency magnetics, power capacitors, etc.), state-of-the-art cooling techniques Experience with modern converter topologies, specifically isolated DC-DC converters (e.g., resonant, phase-shifted full bridge, dual active bridge) Thorough understanding of PCB layout and EMC/EMI design practices, of voltage clearance/creepage requirements, insulation, and interconnection techniques Experience with EMI/EMC development, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability consideration (e.g., electronic simulation for DfR and DfM or worst-case analysis) Position Criteria Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual Strong communication and presentation skills Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and technical documents Fluent in oral and written English Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment Project management knowledge is a plus Position requires up to 10% travel domestic and international.
