Eaton’s Power Electronics Center of Excellence is currently seeking a Power & Embedded Electronics Design Engineer Specialist to join our team. This position is based at our Raleigh, NC facility. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: Eaton’s PE and EE CoE accelerate the company’s growth through the development of power electronics technology platforms and common hardware building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing analog, digital, and power circuits, including embedded electronic circuits with DSP/micro-processor/FPGA, sensor interfaces, communication cards, gate drivers, and SMPS. The individual will be a member of the global PE & EE CoE and report to the Embedded Electronics and Low Power Electronics team leader. In this function you will: Lead electronics circuit design and development activities and demonstrates start-finish ownership for the assigned projects and tasks. Perform design, modeling, simulation and implementation of analog, digital, and power electronics circuits including embedded electronics circuits with DSP/micro-processor/FPGA, sensor interfaces, communication cards, gate drivers, and SMPS. Perform analog, digital, and power circuits functional testing. Develop the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs. Create technical reports and presentations. Build and measure test circuits. Analyze data to improve/optimize the designs. Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and firmware engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs. Evaluate the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution Minimum of 8 years of total relevant experience OR Master's degree from an accredited insitution and minimum of 6 years relevant experience. (Relevant experience is defined as engineering experience in designing, developing, and testing analog, digital, and power circuits, including embedded electronics circuits, sensor interface, communication cards, gate drivers, and SMPS) Preferred Qualifications: Significant experience in circuit modeling and simulation with tools such as SPICE or Simplis Significant hands-on experience with analog, digital, and power circuits development and testing PCB layout experience and knowledge of PCB assembly process M.S. or Ph.D. in electrical engineering or equivalent. Experience in designing high-speed electronics Experience with SI and PI analysis tools for high-speed designs Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability consideration (e.g., electronic simulation for DfR and DfM or worst-case analysis) Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Design for Six Sigma certification Position Criteria: Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, and other standard EE lab equipment Customer-focused with good relationship building and communication skills Ability to demonstrate problem-solving using logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions Ability to learn new skills, knowledge, industry, or products Strong written communication and verbal communication skills Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual Strong understanding of circuit theory and signal integrity as it applies to circuit layout (e.g., PCB layout) Occasional domestic and international required as needed Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy, and truthful manner A desire for innovation, new product development, program management … to make what matters work!
