Job Overview
An application engineer's role is to ensure that vehicle builders utilizing DETROIT engines, after treatments, transmissions, and axles do so in a manner that complies with our published guidelines. They also assist in the creating and maintain those guidelines, provide the technical interface to vehicle OEM's, help resolve issues with end user vehicles, and provide technical support for trade shows.
Responsibilities
- Liaison between Detroit Powertrain Engineering and Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) Chassis Engineering and/or Product Validation Engineering to plan testing and document compliance to Powertrain Application guidelines, requirements, and limits.
- Liaison between Detroit Powertrain Engineering and 3rd Party OEMs to plan testing and document compliance to Powertrain Application guidelines, requirements, and limits.
- Assist 3rd Party OEMs with vehicle factory programming and field issue resolutions.
- Review DT12 transmission and DD5/DD8 engine application requests and approve/deny them as appropriate.
- Maintain Powertrain performance curve and application limit database and associated tools.
- Maintain and create analysis tools for engine and transmission application reviews, end user use profiles, telematics reported data visualization, and other needs as necessary.
- Master's degree from an accredited college/university with 1+ year of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college with 3+ years of related experience OR an associates degree from an accredited university/college with 5+ years related experience required
- A degree focus in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field preferred
- Proficient with Detroit Powertrain tools and knowledgeable regarding installation and application requirements preferred
- Knowledgeable regarding diesel engine and after treatment function, diagnostic functions, and customization features within powertrain control systems preferred
- Knowledgeable regarding DETROIT software and fuel map features and how to adjust them for optimum capability for each vehicle preferred
- Program/Project management or vehicle testing experience preferred
- Familiarity with Daimler Systems, such as View Cad, EE Depot Server, DiagnosticLink, DIBs, Nedwerk Client, EE Data Mining, CANape preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft office tools, i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, OneNote, SharePoint, Skype, etc preferred
- Proficiency with Database system and analysis tools preferred
- Understand and speak German and or Spanish and or Portuguese language preferred
- Good communication and presentation skills preferred
- Familiar with diesel engine and after treatment testing/measurement tools and post test data processing of results preferred
