Reports to: - Senior Ethical Trade Manager (China & Far East)
Working with the SETM China, contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of Primark’s Ethical Trade Strategy in China with a focus on driving solutions to issues affecting compliance with the Primark Code of Conduct for Suppliers
Responsibilities/Key Tasks
With the SETM China, contributes to the on-going development of the company’s Ethical Trading Strategy, providing insight, advice and solutions direct from the supply base
Filling the Gap – manages the set of activities that drive efficiency and effectiveness into the new factory auditing process
Reactive Remediation – manages the set of activities that drive factory improvements in those areas identified by the Primark social audit programme
Proactive Remediation – manages the set of activities that aims to prevent common issues occurring in factories through extensive engagement with factory and supplier management
Collaborates with the ETM (Audit) to ensure that Solutions activities are based on up to date data, and that activity is relevant and current
Uses data from the audit programme along with other data from stakeholders to get ahead of issues before the monitoring programme finds them
Manages third party relationships as appropriate
Tracks progress and communicates challenges and successes
Liaises with Solutions activity in other Regions to ensure consistency and learning
Assists and support the social audit programme as and where required
Works to drive traceability, transparency and visibility of production lower tiers of the supply base
Supports the work of the structural integrity, environment and projects Controllers
Manages and develops the team
Knowledge & Experience
Experience in CR and ET and the factory environment
Factory audit and remediation processes (e.g. SMETA, SA8000 advanced)
Excellent organisation/communication skills
A self starter who is results driven in a fast paced environment
The ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders & across the business
Complexity & Creativity
Able to cope with the complexity of Primark’s suppliers, factories and global department
Able to cope with the diversity of cultures across the Primark ET Field Team
Appreciates the bigger picture of the audit programme and its link into Primark as a business

Manages the trade-offs involved in the ethical trade programme of a global retailer
Able to regard situations in ET within the context of risk management and improvements to worker welfare
Acts as, and manages, the interface between supplier, factory, worker, buyer and other stakeholders to support the business
Maintains cultural sensitivity
Operational Responsibility
- Ensures integrity of audit management system and database as relevant to countries in scope
- Ensures availability of ethically approved factories to Primark as relevant to countries in scope
