Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and creative Primary Art Teacher to join our dynamic teaching team in Nanjing. The ideal candidate will inspire students aged 6-12 to explore their artistic potential, develop foundational art skills, and foster a lifelong love for art. You will design engaging, age-appropriate art lessons that align with international primary education standards and local curriculum requirements, while creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment where every student feels confident to express themselves through art.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Lesson Planning
Develop and deliver creative art lessons tailored to primary students (Grades 1-6) that cover core art disciplines, including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, crafts, and digital art (where applicable).
Align lesson plans with school academic goals, international primary art education frameworks, and relevant local curriculum guidelines to ensure balanced skill development and creative expression.
Integrate cross-curricular elements (e.g., connecting art to history, science, or literature) to enhance students’ holistic learning experience.
Classroom Instruction & Student Support
Teach students foundational art techniques (e.g., color theory, composition, texture) while encouraging experimentation and independent creative thinking.
Provide personalized guidance to students of varying artistic abilities, offering constructive feedback to help them improve and build confidence.
Manage classroom dynamics effectively, ensuring a respectful, inclusive atmosphere where all students feel comfortable sharing their work and ideas.
Art Activities & Exhibition Coordination
Organize and lead extracurricular art activities, such as art clubs, workshops, or school-wide art projects (e.g., murals, seasonal crafts).
Plan and coordinate student art exhibitions (e.g., end-of-term shows, themed displays) to showcase students’ work and celebrate their achievements.
Collaborate with other primary teachers and staff to integrate art into school events (e.g., cultural festivals, open days).
Assessment & Communication
Conduct ongoing formative assessments of students’ art skills, creativity, and participation, maintaining accurate records of progress.
Prepare regular progress reports for students and communicate with parents/guardians via parent-teacher conferences, emails, or school platforms to discuss students’ development and address concerns.
Provide feedback to the academic team on curriculum effectiveness, suggesting improvements to enhance art education outcomes.
Resource & Safety Management
Manage art classroom resources, including art supplies (paints, paper, clay, tools) and equipment, ensuring proper storage, maintenance, and safe usage.
Teach students safe handling of art materials and tools, adhering to school health and safety policies at all times.
Source and recommend age-appropriate art resources (e.g., books, online tools, materials) to enrich lesson content.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Art Education, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent international teaching qualification) with a focus on primary education or art education.
Prior teaching experience (1+ year preferred) in primary art education, working with students aged 6-12 (experience in international schools or bilingual settings is a plus).
Skills & Competencies
Strong creative and artistic ability, with proficiency in a range of art techniques (drawing, painting, 3D art, etc.).
Excellent classroom management skills, able to engage young learners and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
Fluent English communication skills (spoken and written); basic Chinese language proficiency (for daily communication with local staff/parents) is preferred but not mandatory.
Proficiency in using basic educational technology (e.g., PowerPoint, art-related apps) to enhance lesson delivery.
