Job Description

ICHK is seeking a part time (3 or 4 days a week negotiable) Literacy Support Teacher. This person will work under the direction of our Director of Inclusion to provide focused Literacy support for small groups and individuals across the school.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Primary School teacher with additional experience and expertise in Literacy Support.

The position will commence as soon as possible and run until the end of this academic year (29 June 2021).

Primary Literacy Support Teacher (Part-time)

  • Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching with a specialisation in primary education; or Bachelor’s Degree with a Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma in primary education
  • 2+ years teaching experience
  • Experience in providing high quality literacy instruction
  • Fluent in spoken and written English


Desired

  • Additional qualifications in Literacy support or related field.
  • IBPYP experience
  • Efficient level of ICT literacy (with experience in using GSuite for Education)


Major Responsibilities
Planning and Preparing

  • Set learning goals for students identified needing learning support
  • Plan learning objectives based on learning goals for individual children
  • Use reading assessment data to inform planning
  • Maintain planning records


Instructing

  • Communicate clear learning expectations to children
  • Use questioning and discussion techniques
  • Engage children in learning
  • Differentiate according to child needs
  • Check for prior learning
  • Consistently assess and monitor learning through a variety of methods
  • Provide timely and quality feedback for children
  • Take ownership of the achievements of children


Managing Learning Environments

  • Ensure learning environments are safe and supports learning
  • Empower children to collaborate with others
  • Use learning environments as the “Third Teacher”


Contributing to a Learning Community

  • Collaborate with the staff and leadership
  • Consistently reflect on own teaching
  • Be organised and disciplined with own responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues
  • Set and monitor own challenging learning goals, seeking out own professional learning opportunities
  • Participate in school events when asked
