Job Description
Job title PYP Coordinator
Reports to Head of Primary
Job purpose
The role of the PYP coordinator is to work collaboratively with all PYP teachers and the administration in primary school as a key member of the School Leadership Team by facilitating, organizing, and implementing the PYP program.
Duties and responsibilities
Major roles include, but are not limited to, the following:
Documentation:
oBe familiar with and promote understanding and use of all PYP documents.
oEnsure that copies of IB publications pertaining to the PYP section of the school are available to all staff members.
oLead the process of developing or reviewing on a regular basis the school’s curriculum documents, including the program of inquiry and scope and sequence documents.
oEnsure that policies are formulated for teaching and learning language and for assessment.
oEnsure that the IB relevant documents are shared with relevant staff.
Resource management:
oMake recommendations for the purchase of suitable resources to support the implementation of the program.
oEnsure the grades/departments carrying out relevant processes for the purchased resources.
oBe responsible for the establishment of an inventory of resources to facilitate efficient collaboration.
Supporting:
oSupport the head of primary to supervise, evaluate and support the academic capabilities of all PYP teachers.
oOther IB programs including early years/MYP/DP/CP to ensure the continuity of programs.
oSet up systems for communication and collaboration among all programs.
Communication:
oRegular communication with IBO, IB schools and other IB related communities.
oEnsure that all requirements of the IB concerning the implementation of the program are adhered to.
oSet up systems for communication and collaboration among all PYP teachers involved in implementing the program.
oConduct parent information sessions, students-led conference, 3-way conference and other PYP related meetings for learning community.
oAttend meetings with learning communities so that they have some understanding of the goals of the PYP.
oPublish articles pertaining to the program in the school media.
Teaching:
oTeach 6-8 periods each week.
oObserve classes regularly and provide feedbacks.
oDemo lesson to continue developing understanding of PYP implementation and provide timely and practical support for teachers.
Training and professional development:
oMake recommendations regarding professional development opportunities on and off campus.
oAssist teams or individuals in developing and documenting units of inquiry and individual student inquiries.
oPlan and organize school level and external IB-approved training for teachers and administrators.
oArrange and provide in-school trainings for teachers.
oArrange and provide in-school workshops for parents.
