Eaton is seeking a Power Electronics Chief Engineer for Power Electronics (PE) Center of Excellence (CoE). This position is based at our Raleigh, NC location. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Position Overview:
Eaton’s PE CoE accelerates the company’s growth through the development of power electronics technology platforms and common hardware building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable as well as standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products.
This individual will be responsible for designing, developing and testing analog, digital, and power circuits including gate drivers, sensor interfaces, micro-processors/controllers, DSP’s, FPGA’s, and SMPS. This individual will be a member of the PE CoE and play a key role in driving the development of technology platforms, common building blocks, and design methodologies to be leveraged by multiple business units.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs design, modeling, simulation and implementation of power electronics circuits for power conversion and protection
- Develops the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs
- Creates technical reports and presentations
- Influences, resolves and communicates major changes in projects or programs to cross functional teams across all levels in the company
- Coaches and mentor other engineers to develop their technical capabilities and experience
- Initiates and leads design reviews and technical discussions including brainstorming
- Serves as a recognized power electronics expert for CoE
- Supports the development of PE CoE strategy, direction, and priorities
- Supports the Global PE CoE manager and Business Unit (BU) engineering leaders in the development of technology roadmaps, project pipeline, detailed project plans, and value proposition
- Stays current with the latest power electronics technologies and business trends, applies knowledge to power conversion and protection, and creates new opportunities
- Drives engineering excellence both in PE CoE and the BU’s teams
- Initiates and develops solid relationships with engineering leaders within Eaton to drive adoption of common platforms, common designs, and state-of-the art development process like model-based design
- Partners with the Corporate Research and Technology (CRT) to develop a longer-term research portfolio for power electronics

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree electrical engineering or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution required
- Minimum 12 years of related engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role
Preferred qualifications:
- MS or PhD in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 15+ years of related engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development
- Good understanding of power semiconductors, magnetics design, EMC/EMI design practices, PCBA design practices, and power electronics controls
- Understanding of electrical power distribution, protection and switching such as circuit breakers and contactors
- Understanding of global compliance standards
- Experience in power electronics virtual prototyping
- Ability to develop strategies and detailed plans to achieve the objectives and goals
- Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members
- Competent in project management
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes
- Design for Six Sigma certification
Position Criteria:
- Proven track record of technical capability and leadership skills
- Significant modeling, simulation and analysis experience with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, and PSIM
- Significant hands-on experience with power converter development and testing
- Broad knowledge in power electronics designs including topology, analog/digital circuit, thermal management, control, and firmware
- Customer focused with good relationship building skills
- Ability to learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry
- Strong written communication and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual
- Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team oriented, global, and diverse environment
- Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy and truthful manner.

- Position requires up to 15% travel domestic and international
