What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead development, application, and deployment of meticulous computational models. The candidate will apply biological, chemical and physical understanding of a multi-physics nature to develop novel first-principles and mechanistic computational models addressing a wide variety of exciting problems associated with the development and manufacture of drug substances and drug products.

Responsibilities will include

• Integration of computational modeling and simulation standard business process, management and expansion of a comprehensive modeling portfolio
• Identifying design problems suitable for in-silico modeling
• Formulating mathematical representations of design
• Development and manufacturing questions
• Formulating constitutive and governing equations describing biological, chemical and physical phenomena
• Implementing models in commercial and proprietary software, and deploying these models to internal users via an enterprise modeling infrastructure.
• The Senior Manager Data Science / Principal Engineer will lead a strong modeling team and collaborate heavily with internal stakeholders and leaders in the drug development and manufacturing lifecycle, as well as document and communicate the underlying technical basis of the in silico models for the benefit of and use by the broader engineering and scientific community, including regulatory agencies. Experience in computational modeling is required, and experience in bioprocessing and bio-manufacturing systems is highly desired.

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree and 2 years of data science or engineering experience Or
• Master’s degree and 6 years of data science or engineering experience Or
• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of data science or engineering experience Or
• Associate’s degree and 10 years of data science or engineering experience Or
• High school diploma / GED and 12 years of data science or engineering experience And 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Chemical, Biochemical, Bioprocess, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Exceptional command of fundamentals and first principles, including complex kinetic systems, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, cell metabolism, and fluid dynamics.

Rigorous modeling of drug substance/product unit operations and flowsheets for small/large molecules.

Modeling of drug delivery systems and in vivo drug product performance.

Numerical techniques for model calibration, uncertainty quantification, and optimization.

Good understanding of the regulatory process and requirements.

Good Python programming skills, and good command of commercial modeling tools

Strong interdisciplinary project management skills.

Ability to independently uncover and resolve issues associated with breakthrough innovations.

A good record of scientific publications, ideally related to the qualifications above.

Understanding of biopharmaceutical processes, unit operations and drug delivery systems.
