Department of Chinese Language Studies
Faculty of Humanities

The Department seeks applications for one full-time teaching position at the rank of Principal Lecturer / Senior Lecturer I. The appointee will be responsible for teaching courses of Chinese language pedagogy for undergraduate programmes and/or above. The appointee will be engaged in the planning, teaching and assessment of courses and programmes; develop teaching and learning materials; give guidance to students in the capacity of academic adviser; supervise students on teaching practice; and contribute to departmental and Faculty services.

For the post of Principal Lecturer, applicants should have a Master’s degree, preferably in Chinese linguistics, language education or related subjects, plus a minimum of 15 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subject; or preferably a Doctoral degree in relevant discipline plus a minimum of 6 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subject applied for.

For the post of Senior Lecturer I, applicants should have a Master’s degree, preferably in Chinese Linguistics, Language Education or related subjects, plus a minimum of 8 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subject; or preferably a Doctoral degree in relevant discipline plus a minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-qualification teaching experience in relevant subject applied for.

Applicants should preferably possess a relevant professional teaching certificate, e.g. PGDE or qualification of Qualified Teacher Status recognized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong or other qualification of equivalence. Strong connection with local primary or secondary schools will be advantageous. Proficiency in Chinese (both Putonghua and Cantonese) and English in teaching will be an advantage.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits, and where applicable, housing benefits.
