Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Mechanical Engineer, are to: 

 

  • Lead assigned phases (based on role) of automation projects, including concept development, basic engineering, prototyping, detailed engineering and design, construction, start-up, testing and sustainment of custom automated systems;
  • Follow Bayer and industry best practices while engaging in and directing technical teams in engineering tasks to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability and operability are met;
  • Develop system architectures and technical strategies within platform;
  • Partner with other engineering disciplines, customers and vendors/suppliers to create technical strategies and identify project opportunities;
  • Review specifications, drawings, bills of materials, test procedures and another project documentation;
  • Review check-out, commissioning, testing, start up and field support activities;
  • Propose new procedures, standards and practices to stay current with technology and implement improved methods;
  • Identify risks and design for safety;
  • Review safety strategy, design and documentation;
  • Support controlling cost and schedule on assigned projects, including project budget/schedule estimation and proposal;
  • Direct vendors in all engineering design phases from conceptual design through design review and system integration;
  • Mentor engineering staff within platform in technical development both through formal relationships and informal interactions;
  • Create intellectual property and adheres to company procedures for intellectual property protection.

 

Relocation in the form of a lump sum is available as well as Visa Sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science with at least eight years relevant work experience or Master of Science with at least six years of experience or Ph.D. with at least four years of experience;
  • Degree in Engineering or Science preferred;
  • Significant and extensive experience in automation design, machine design, test engineering, agricultural engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Expert knowledge of safety systems, design documentation standards, automation validation, quality assurance, automated system integration and relevant software/hardware tools;
  • Excellent knowledge of and extensive demonstrated application of relevant national and international standards in area of expertise;
  • Systematic approach to problem definition and solution development;
  • Ability to excel as a member of cross-functional teams and to participate in multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at different levels of management, engineering, suppliers and internal customers.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
