Product Manager – API Platform
At BNY Mellon, we are at the forefront of digitally transforming the financial services industry. The API Platform supports hundreds of internal and external APIs, with dozens of strategic financial services clients depending on our stability and success. We support the API lifecycle, from publishing to consumption to support. The API Platform team is distributed across Jersey City, Chennai and Pune. We are expected to build and operate a 24/7 platform.
Role
As the Product Manager for the API Platform, you will have overall responsibility for ensuring the platform delivers value for both our internal stakeholders (API developers) and external stakeholders (API consumers). You will own our strategic product road map and direct the development teams to execute on the priorities you set.
The API Platform product manager will ensure that clients are able to effectively explore, test, and develop using our APIs. You will represent the client technical teams when working with BNY Mellon product, engineering, and business teams. You will also be involved in conversations with client product managers, business leaders, and others interested in learning about our APIs.
As the Product Manager, you will create educational materials, guidelines, and sample code to improve the developer experience. As client developers begin to use our APIs, you will be their first point of contact while getting access, trying new APIs, and addressing issues that arise with our APIs. You will also work with our internal teams to route issues and questions as they arise.
What you'll do

Principal Product Manager->> Leads and provides guidance on product development and marketing processes for multiple relatively complex global products that are high impact and high profile. Liaises with cross-functional teams to provide products that address client needs. Leads sessions on the design and development of product marketing strategies for multiple relatively complex global products that are high impact and high profile. Provides guidance to cross-functional teams including Development and Marketing. Uses broad understanding of the product, any design or development considerations, the marketing environment, and the marketing strategy to provide valued input. Serves as a subject matter expert in a particular product area and provides guidance on product competitors, consumer trends, and market status. Is primary point of contact for clients. Develops product positioning and branding. Responsible for championing products internally and externally. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business management or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required 10-12 years of related experience required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
Desired Skills:
- At least 10 years’ experience working with APIs and / or API management platforms
Experience working with and building REST APIs
Deep understanding of authentication and security protocols such as; OAuth2, HTTPS/TLS and Certificate management
Deep understanding of TCP/IP protocols
Experience working with distributed and High Availability architectures and systems
Experience working with SCRUM / Agile tools such as Jira
Exposure to 3rd party networking and security platforms such as Akamai for DDoS protection, IP acceleration and traffic management
Hands on experience with API Testing tools such as POSTMAN, SOAP UI and Jmeter
Experience with BI reporting tools such as Kibana, PowerBI and Tableau
Experience building production-quality APIs, preferably in a B2B environment
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
Great written and verbal communication skills, including with non-technical audiences
Enjoys working with large and varied stakeholders in a matrixed environment across multiple geographic regions
Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Ability to articulate the long-term vision of the platform and service
