As we drive to be the leading cloud platform in the world, Azure Global Customer Engineering Legacy team is hiring an exceptional technical program manager to help accelerate our most strategic government customers’ adoption of Microsoft Azure by connecting our technical experience, along with our customers’ vision and challenges directly to the engineering product teams, and as a result help to ensure Azure is the most compelling solution on the market. We are specialized in working with our customers on their legacy footprint and provide Azure solutions that best fit their needs.
Success in this role combines listening to understand the legacy footprint for our customers, their use cases and scenarios, and translating these into viable cloud architectures and communicating this at an executive level.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities includes:
- Understand customers' overall applications portfolio, IT and business priorities and success measures to design implementation architectures and solutions
- Apply technical knowledge and customer insights to create a modernization roadmap
- Architect solution for migrating high scale application systems from on-prem to cloud technologies (both app and data systems layers)
- Ensure all solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment
- Collaborate with the partner ecosystem teams to provide technological guidance/best practices advice/high quality tech expertise and assure a successful migration to Azure technologies for our customers.
- Engage with the Microsoft Azure Platform & Services feature teams to provide feedback and drive platform enhancements/optimizations for supporting legacy workloads in the cloud.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with one or more of the following Legacy technologies:
- Mainframe/Midrange systems: IBM (zSeries, IBMx86, IBM Power, AS/400)/Unisys - developed apps for CICS/IMS; used mainframe tools (monitoring/scheduling, etc); ported applications from the mainframe space to open systems; ported apps from Unix to Linux
- Database management systems: DB2/Oracle/Sybase, Open Source (PostgreSQL, MySQL), SQL Server and MPP databases architectures (Teradata, Netezza, Exadata or other)
- Unix operating systems: AIX, Solaris, UP-UX
- Development languages: COBOL, RPG and PL/I
- Experience and understanding of large-scale application portfolios in enterprise-wide environments
- Success in consultative and/or technical leadership (e.g. architect) with sophisticated and complex customers and projects
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, migrations, and technology management
- Experience with scalable architectures using Azure App Service, API management, serverless technologies, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry etc.), API management, microservice frameworks etc.
- Deep domain expertise in:
- cloud infrastructure solutions (i.e. Windows and Linux IaaS, SAP, BCDR, Security, Management, Storage, Networking, OSS, containers and Infra as a code technologies)
- container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry);
- web application server technologies, cloud application design, software architecture and practices
- one or more of the following programming languages: C++, C#, Java, Node.js, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, Pig/Hive
- Department of Defense experience
